What exactly are you making?
Tales of the God-Hand will be a graphic novel series of seven chapters set in a fictional Steampunk world inspired by the gods, heroes, and heroines of classic myths. This Kickstarter is designed to fund the first of these chapters. Each issue is planned to be around 50 pages in length, hand drawn and inked, digitally colored and detailed just like the one you see below. This epic adventure told in the tradition of "Hercules", and "Jason and the Argonauts" will fill a hole left by the lack of these powerful tales in our modern lives.
Talam is a world that sits on the verge of a technological revolution. Aether powered devices promise to change everything by improving industry, transport, and providing for convenience. As much as this technology will help to improve lives, it also has darker applications. Aether powered weapons have recently become things of rumor instead of just imagination. No revolution ever happens without death.
A cataclysm millennia ago shattered this once great land into a group of hundreds of islands. The largest of these, Ilass, is home to the greatest center of learning and invention in all of the known world. It is also home to our protagonist, Tycho, and his two closest friends, his only family, Thalia and Ionan.
Creating an independent graphic novel, and subsequently self-publishing, requires funding. With this Kickstarter we will fund the first issue. We will use the money garnered from the release of the first volume to reinvest into the next volume and so forth. This is your opportunity to get in early and watch the story develop. We have a great story for you.
Kickstarter is awesome because it can help writers and artists who are unknown, or working in genres that the big publishers consider too much of a risk, to tell their stories.
The best part of Kickstarter for us is that we will get to tell the story the way we want, the way that best serves the medium, without the changes that are likely to take place under the guidance of a large publisher. The best part for you is that you get to see the story at its founding and to be a part of it. For the ten of you who pledge $75, you will be drawn in the story as a powerful character.
Where does the money go?The majority of the money will go towards fulfilling the project rewards, namely the completion and delivery of this incredible first chapter. There is also the small fee that Kickstarter and Amazon keep for providing this fantastic service.
The remainder of the funds are going to allow our artist, Ash, to work on this project full-time. With him on the job non-stop, the project can be finished much more quickly.
When we exceed our stated goal, we will add some stretch rewards. What's more, we won't need to wait for the the revenue from the first issue to fund the next volume.
Risks and challenges
This project's biggest current challenge is funding. Once we are able to secure the funds, this graphic novel can become the full-time endeavor it deserves.
For the Backers, the biggest risk is that there might be some delays (illness, death, publishing delays, artist explodes and writer has to clean the mess, etc.). We intend to do everything in our power to minimize and eliminate these delays.
We are committed to finishing this project, but we need your help to get our hero's story off the ground. If there happen to be any problems or delays, we promise to keep everyone in the loop, and do whatever we can to correct the problem.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
