THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! This is a story that needs to be told and is appropriate for the time we live in.
About Be the Change, An Independent Short Film
"Be the Change" is a short film that follows the life of a young actor and the issues he faces in Los Angeles because he is typecasted as the terrorist.
The media sets the tone for the morals, values, and images of our culture. Stereotypical images of race and ethnic appearance in media tend to perpetuate biases among people.
Why don't we ever see a Middle Eastern superhero?
My project's goal is to bring to light the issue of stereotyping in Hollywood. We intend to challenge stereotypes by portraying a character of color at the center of the story. As the story unfolds, the film provokes the viewer into thinking through issues of skin color and race. It is intended for the festival circuit and every dollar fundraised will help make this dream a reality.
Inspiration Behind This Project
This project is inspired by:
Vin Diesel's 1985 Short Film "Multi-Facial:"
Joshua Seftel's Web Series, "The Secret Life of Muslims:"
And these two articles: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/26-times-white-actors-played-people-of-color-and-no-one-really-gave-a-sht_us_56cf57e2e4b0bf0dab313ffc
We want to create a meaningful impact on society through this independent short film.

Who does the money go to? Every dollar (minus the services fees from Kickstarter) will go directly to this film's budget. So, your money goes directly to funding this project for production costs like sound/lighting/camera rental equipment, paying the crew/cast, permits, post-production, festival submission fees etc.
If I donate to this film, when can I redeem the incentive(s)? All incentives will only happen if our goal is met. We set a small, realistic goal and believe we can achieve it with your help. If we do meet our goal, immediately after our deadline we will start to manufacture and ship all merchandise directly to you. The screenings, parties and dvds etc. can only happen after the film is completed so this will take a little bit of time.
What if I don’t want the incentive, I just want to support? No problem at all. You can select if you don’t want the reward as you donate. Sharing this project is very helpful, too!
Can we exceed the goal? YES!!! This would truly be amazing and ideal. Exceeding our goal will allow us to make a better movie and have it submitted to larger film festivals. Perhaps we can even create a feature film! We have set our goal at the low end and if we are able to exceed it, that would be a dream come true!
Can I increase my pledge after it has been made? YES!!! Once you donate to our kickstarter campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or maybe even increase your pledge amount. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click on it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive!
So, what happens if the money isn’t raised in time? Unfortunately, if our goal isn’t met before the deadline, not even a penny is transferred over and no film is made. We want to avoid this scenario at all costs!!
If I am not located in the United States, can I still donate to this project? Yes!!! You can pledge from anywhere in the world.
Risks and challenges
If we are successful in fundraising money from Kickstarter to support this project, it will help us make this project come to life. Otherwise, it may never come to life.
Access to more funding gives us the opportunity to do a lot more in post- production, art, graphics, music, etc. and will be way more visually compelling in our narrative than we would be without having access to the money.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
