About this project
My hope with this project is to tell a terrific story spanning three books (or more) about the developing relationship between a murderous two-hundred year-old Hungarian vampire and a twenty-year-old woman from coastal Georgia (U.S.A.). I’m choosing the self-publishing route because I believe in maintaining the integrity of a good story and don’t wish to see the concept or story changed. It also warrants mentioning that many agents and publishing houses are so overloaded with vampire fiction manuscripts that it becomes very easy to get “lost in the shuffle.” With a good story, endearing characters, and proper promotion, this project could very-easily find a life of its own.
I want to restore vampires in literature to what they were meant to be: dark, brooding, dangerous killers with little regard for human life. The vampires that I write are not supernatural beings in the “cursed by God, minions of Satan” sense, but rather human predators that exist because of a blood disorder that renders them stronger, faster, and much more aggressive than ordinary people. The only 'superhuman powers' manifested by vampires are determined by astrology – when the vampire was born, when he or she was made a vampire, and whom it was that made them what they are.
At the center of this story is Sandor Rajczy, a renegade vampire that lives by his own rules, disregards the territories of vampire families, and is very protective of his alias “SKORPIÓ.” He has lived outside of traditional vampire society most of his life, a choice he made many years ago when that world punished him for falling in love with a mortal human, and now finds himself on a homicidal rampage as he seeks revenge on other vampires for trying to capture and kill him. Complicating matters for him is Libby, a law student and the daughter of two vampires that he killed, whom he has taken hostage while he attempts to deliver her to the very man that has him being hunted.
The more time that Skorpió spends with Libby, the more he begins to question the way he exists. She is smart and analytical, but she’s been sheltered from the darker sides of vampire society her entire life and struggles to understand a beast of a man that adheres to an old sense of honor. While Skorpió teaches his captive what it is to be a vampire among normal humans, Libby finds herself conflicted between hatred for the fiend that killed her parents and a growing respect for the simple, brutish man that has survived for two centuries despite countless attempts to eliminate him. Throughout the books we’ll learn how both Skorpió and Libby became who they are, how the events of each of their pasts continue to mold their futures, and how each moves forward into the uncertain days ahead.
It’s a story of love, hate, revenge, redemption, history, betrayal, conflict, violence, and finding peace in a chaotic, dangerous world.
The funds that I am seeking to raise will go toward a comprehensive self-publishing plan including professional editing, formatting, design, and marketing. Included in this project will be a home website for the project, promotional materials (such as t-shirts, stickers, cards, posters, etc.), and production of a video for marketing on social websites. The goal is to go as “big” as possible, so the more funding I can acquire will mean the more that can go into development and advertising the project to the broadest possible audience. With your help, this could be the next big thing to hit the world of vampire literature.
