What Is It?
The Kreate-a-lope® Envelope Maker is the fastest envelope maker on the planet! It does not require scissors or tracing and most people can make an envelope in about 30 seconds out of any kind of paper.
When I first came up with it, I had no idea how many cool papers the world had to offer. I started with just using magazine pages and then discovered you could also recycle old calendars, wrapping paper, wall paper (you can get discontinued wall paper sample books from many paint and wall paper stores for free).
And it just took off from there - I started using digitized photographs, a friend made an envelope using her newborn's footprints to make a birth announcement, people were telling me they made their own wedding invitations using fine papers, kids like to use it for their own artwork, and teenagers go almost as wild for it as card makers and rubber stampers. (I did my first press release using the Sunday comics.)
It's really an amazing tool that makes anyone feel creative and the list of papers and ways to make one-of-a-kind designs is endless. Not to mention, you can save a ton of money and bring smiles to the people in your life with your super cool creations.
How Does it Work?
It's very simple. You use the window of the bigger template to line up any image you want on the front. Then, you tear the paper against the edge of the template by pulling it towards the center on a slight angle. After you've sized the paper to match the bigger template, flip the paper over and realign the bigger template.
Then, drop the rectangular template into the window, remove the bigger template, and fold the paper around the edges of the rectangular template. Then, glue the side flaps to the bottom flaps and seal the top flap when you're ready to send a letter, give a card, stuff it with cash as part of a gift, etc.
The cool thing is, because you use the window to line up your image, you can control what goes on the front. So, if you're making an envelope for your mom and she likes flowers, you can use a cool magazine page, or wrapping paper, wall paper, or just about anything with a flower on it - even your own digitized and printed photos!
Say your dad, husband or boyfriend loves cars, use a cool photo of the latest sports car or a classic. Kids love comics and cartoons. Teens love who and what they love and crave to be unique and one-of-a kind in their expressions, the possibilities are endless!
If you're a card maker, why not make a beautiful envelope to go along with your beautiful card!

The funds raised will be used to create new dies for cutting the plastic, new screens for printing the artwork on the templates, and to produce the Kreate-a-lopes on a large enough scale so they are affordable, and in a number of different sizes.
I have a new manufacturer here in the US that has produced several runs for me already for the two sizes we currently have dies and screens for, and the quality has been excellent, the turnaround is reasonably quick once we get the plastic in-house, and they're more than capable of handling large production runs.
As more and more production goes offshore, it's a great relief to be able to make Kreate-a-lopes® in the US and support families and the economy here.
I have perfected the design for several years by tweaking the thickness of the plastic for maximum utility at the lowest cost to the end user, by adding the overlap artwork so detailed oriented people can produce incredible envelopes, and by fine tuning the sizes and tolerances so you get the prettiest results. And so the templates we'll get from these runs are sure to be the best they can be.
I also plan on moving the fulfillment to a new location so customer service and fulfillment will be better and faster.

- A2 Standard Invitation Size - this is the template I used in the video. It makes an envelope 4 3/8" x 5 5/8" and will fit an 8 1/2" x 11" inch paper when folded in quarters. It's the most popular size and works with any paper larger than 8" - this means scrapbook paper, rubber stamped paper, computer paper, magazine pages, calendars, pretty much anything.
- A7 Standard Greeting Card Size - this templates makes envelopes 5" x 7 1/8". It works with any paper larger than 9 3/4" x 9 3/4" and I like to use this one with larger magazines, calendars, rubber stamped paper, scrapbook paper, wallpaper and old posters.

AMAZING CARD TEMPLATES!!!
Additionally, many of the features of the individual card templates are interchangeable, which gives you even more options. Specifically, the A2 has a stair-step pop-up capability and the A7 has a V-pop up ability - AND these are interchangeable with any other size card!!! The A2 also has a "soft curve" guideline that can add a cutaway edge to any of the other sizes as well (see image below).

Making the Kreate-a-lope® Templates
We have a wonderful, new, US based manufacturer that can handle large production runs. I'm keen on the quality of the templates they've produced so far and the relatively quick turnaround.
To make the Kreate-a-lopes® we have to buy plastic sheeting in large quantities in order to make the production runs cost effective for us and you, the end user. We then print the artwork on the sheets with a process known as silk screening. After the printing process, the sheets are run through a die cutting press.
From there, the excess plastic is stripped away and sent to our fulfillment house, where they are packaged for sale.
It's a very time consuming process and the screens need to be watched very closely for ink blotting and damage. The dies need to be watched closely as well. Once the blades on the dies get dull, cuts that should be straight might bow, or they might break or fracture the plastic instead of cutting it, among other things. If this happens, they have to be sent out to the company we buy them from and they rebuild them or replace them. But our new manufacturer is on top of things and the output thus far has been excellent.
Special thanks to Jodi D. for letting me use her Nikon for the video and still photos, and to Recollections for many of the scrapbook papers shown in the video. Song credit: Truce Lee by the artist Hands of Stone.

Risks and challenges
The challenge will be getting the word out and convincing Kickstarters to participate. I have seen a lot of tremendous projects here and getting the attention needed for a successful campaign will be challenging, so I'm asking everyone, from family, to friends and new friends, to the Kickstarter community and bloggers everywhere to spread the word. "Tell a friend," I say!
When it comes to fulfillment, every project has potential obstacles including ours. But we have quite a few years of manufacturing experience and our new US based manufacturer understands our production needs and has the capacity to handle runs of a large magnitude.
There are a number of challenges in the manufacturing process however, and they include getting a high quality plastic from the extrusion company, getting a timely delivery of material to our die cutting facility, and making sure the dies and screens are performing as they should be. I am confident that the lead time we have built into the project will be sufficient to handle any mishaps that occur along the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes, envelopes made with the Kreate-a-lope® envelope template meet US and foreign postal regulations. Just be sure to seal the envelope well and add the correct postage.
The edges are normal factory cuts and have not been sharpened. The template tears the paper based on a simple principal - if you pull paper against any edge, like the template, or a ruler, paper will tear if you pull at a slight angle and across the edge.
It works with just about any kind of paper as long as it is large enough for the template. We like to use magazine pages, old calendars, wrapping paper, wall paper, rubber stamped paper, children's artwork and coloring pages, comics, scrapbook paper and more.
Yes. The key to tearing thicker papers is to hold the template down close to the edge where you want to size the paper and be sure to pull at a slight angle against the template edge.
A clean edge is determined by your technique, the kind of paper you are using, and the quality of the paper. Thicker papers like card stock are difficult to get a very clean edge, but I designed the template with plenty of room for trimming edges, using a deckle scissor to add a cool border, and of course for adding glue. The template is also very forgiving in that many of the edges disappear when you make the envelope and get glued down so you won't notice most imperfections.
Kreate-a-lopes® are made of a sturdy see-thru plastic - similar to that of a 1 liter Coke bottle. Sturdy, bendable, and the ability to see your artwork so you get the perfect envelope.
I am planning on adding some pictures of these shortly, but they are made from see-thru plastic as well so you can really make a perfect card. They have alignment markers which show you where to place your bi-fold and tri-fold if you want to make a gate card. The best part about them (and the Kreate-a-lope® for that matter) is that there is no measuring involved.
Yes. Lick & Stick glue that is part of some of the rewards is gluten-free, non-toxic, flavorless, and is entirely synthetic, meaning, no animal bi-products are in it.
Just pledged to your kickstarter campaign. Just wondering if I request the size now or when it ends?
Thanks for making a pledge! A: At the end of the campaign I'll send out a survey to you and all backers asking which sizes you want.
Can you get two of the same size template in one pledge level? For example, if I pledge at the $38 level, can I get (2) A2, (2) A6, and (1) #10 business size?
Yes, you can definitely get multiples of any one size on a given pledge level. At the end of the campaign, assuming it reaches its goal, I will be sending out a survey asking you what sizes you would like. In your reply, you would let me know the sizes and counts.
