What People are Saying:
"Everything with the name Da Vinci included seems to blow our minds away. There’s the man himself, the Da Vinci Code, and now the Da Vinci Notebook" - Swaggest.com
"I love the way my pen glides across this paper. I have been using it for writing and it's addictive." - Frank DeWire, Writer and Pen Enthusiast
"Colored Prismacolor Pencils - blend beautifully, smooth, able to create very fine lines and detail, better than any paper I've ever used with colored pencil." ~ Gina Jane Pemberton, Artist, Graphic Designer
"Two thumbs up for the mixed media art journal world. This paper rocks!" ~ Terri Sproul, Designer, TerriSproul.blogspot.com
"I don’t think I’ve ever seen paper handle bleedtastic markers so well; if you love using Sharpie Markers but have been looking for the perfect paper where you can use both sides of the page for your writings and drawings, HERE IT IS. If your father was a tree and was killed by Moleskine to make a crappy notebook because they diluted your father’s noble wood pulp content with who knows what kind of garbage, and you’ve vowed never again to write on wood pulp paper, YOU CAN WRITE AGAIN! Or if you just want something that is both familiar and yet completely different, this is the paper." ~ NoPenIntended
What is a Da Vinci πotebook?
A Da Vinci πotebook™ is a revolutionary new notebook made from stone. It is a place to dream and record your visions, notes, thoughts, and ponderings without limits, much like the Master did himself. From the blank cover awaiting your expression, to the various page styles being made available, you are the creator of your Da Vinci Notebook™.
And in the spirit of incorporating true innovation like Da Vinci, the paper used in this amazing notebook does not use a single tree in its production! It uses no bleach, no toxic chemicals, and no water! It is essentially made from rocks! The paper is inherently water resistant, tear resistant, grease resistant, mold resistant, and acid-free. Mom's and Dad's take note too: this paper is juice resistant, apple sauce resistant, spaghetti splatter can be removed too! You can even wash off water color paints and re-use it.
Simply put, the Da Vinci Notebook™ is an eco-friendly innovative notebook for people of all kinds!
As an award winning inventor and author, I have been using journals, sketchbooks, and making my own Da Vinci notebooks as far back as I can remember. I've used every possible kind of notebook to record ideas that turned into patents, notes that turned into scripts and books, drawings, mind maps, and more.
Over the last dozen years, I've turned to countless friends, inventors, writers, and artists, inquiring about their process, their favorite mediums, all in search of a perfect way to capture the next light speed idea or inspiration, and to have a creative tool that did not get in the way, but rather, was inspirational in its own right.
Taking what I've learned along the way was only the beginning, discovering the paper, with its eco-friendly aspects and addictive silky smooth texture, opened the door to an exciting new way of capturing ideas, notes, and images.

For Your Unlimited Creativity...
Your creative mind has no limits. So, why should your notebook or sketchbook have limits??? I don't believe it should and that's why I created the Da Vinci Notebook™ the way you see it here - with as much freedom and options as possible - just like the canvas of your free-flowing mind.
For starters, the cover is blank. No corporate branding. No artwork from other artists hired to guess what will be well received by the most people on a store shelf somewhere. It's blank so you can create whatever cover you want, color it anything you envision with no limits just like you did as a child making book covers to your whimsy in school. So shall be YOUR Da Vinci Notebook™.
Page Combinations and Styles
The blast off point of this project offers blank pages or ruled pages made from this fabulous rock paper, each containing 30 pages. Additionally, there are reward levels which give you the ability to configure your Da Vinci Notebook™ in virtually any manner your creative flow requires. This includes over 20 templates for graph paper, dotted grids, music notation, guitar tablature, and more.
Paper Thickness and Size
The pages are a substantial 8 point (0.008", 0.20mm). The front and back covers are 12-14 point (0.012", 0.30mm - 0.014", 0.35mm)).
The notebook is approximately 7" x 10" (177mm x 254mm).
Interesting tidbit. One notebook weighs just about one pound. This unique paper is very substantial to say the least.
Removable and Movable Pages
Traditional notebooks have spiral coils that are crimped so they cannot be removed. This limits your freedom and options. Your Da Vinci Notebook™ will come with a plastic spiral coil that is not crimped so you can remove it easily. This allows you to position pages where you want them, add pages, remove pages, change your cover whenever you want, flip your cover inside out…. endless, endless possibilities for your expression.
A spiral coil binding is also guaranteed to lay flat and can fold back to a smaller size making it easier to handle out in the world.
Foldout Pages - Double the Work Area!
Some of the project options offer foldout pages that can double your work area giving you more freedom than any other notebook on the planet!
For example, if you open your 7"w x 10"h notebook, your work area is essentially 14"w x 10"h. BUT by having foldout pages (horizontal foldouts for this example), your blank canvas will be 28"w x 10"h -- from a 7" x 10" notebook!!!
For those that want a "seamless" continuation between two pages that you almost get with a glued binding, the foldout pages give you just as large a canvas (or larger, depending on how you look at it) as a glue bound notebook - without the unsightly and uneven break in the middle that you get with a glue bound book.
Also, if you're using a foldout page, the spiral coil binding lets you turn back the pages below it, so the foldout lays flat on your work surface.
Digitized Templates - Endless Possibilities
I love options and don't like being boxed in. This is why I created over 20 templates for several of the reward levels that can be used to customize your Da Vinci Notebook™. I've created templates for various styled lines, grids, graph paper, music paper in both "portrait" or "landscape" orientation, guitar tablature, metric graph paper, storyboarding, to-do list layouts, templates for left and right pages and in varying standards, line thicknesses, etc., for all of the above, and more.
The spiral coil binding lets you remove pages easily and the tear resistant and magical texture of this rock paper prints wonderfully in your ink jet printer so you can customize your notebook in any way you need.
Where the Funds Will Go
The funds will go towards ordering the raw sheets, the cost of cutting them to size, printing, labor costs for assembly, coils, shrink wrapping, packaging, and fulfillment.
Please keep in mind that you can pledge as little or as much as you like. Every bit counts and pledges mean more than just the rewards you'll receive. You're supporting a dream and I thank you for it.
I've created both simple and customizable rewards so you can find the right options for you.
More Paper Facts
- The paper in the Da Vinci Notebook™ is made using calcium carbonate (80%), one of the most abundant minerals on earth. Calcium carbonate makes up 70% of all minerals on the planet and is a renewable natural resource produced at a much greater rate than it can be used. (Egg shells are 95% calcium carbonate.) The calcium carbonate is bonded with a non-toxic resin (20%).
- The source of the calcium carbonate is waste material collected from marble quarries and offcuts which are ground and reduced to fine white Calcium Carbonate powder.
- It uses 20-30% less ink than regular paper.
- It is infinitely recyclable with #2 plastics.
- It is degradable when left out in nature for approximately three to nine months (much like egg shells which are 95% calcium carbonate.
- It can be used with many inks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, graphite, charcoal, crayons, oil paints, water based mediums (water colors, acrylics), gouache, inkjet printers, permanent rubber stamp inks, silverpoint, and more. It does not do well with heat so laser printers and copy machines using high heat are not recommended.
- The paper is inherently water resistant, tear resistant, grease resistant, mold resistant, and acid-free. It won't bleed through, is curl resistant, has no fiber, cuts cleanly, scores precisely, embosses crisply.
- The paper received a Silver Cradle to Cradle Certification from MBDC. Certification provides a company with a means to tangibly, credibly measure achievement in environmentally-intelligent design.

Risks and challenges
As with any project there are many elements that have to come together. Projections, actual needs, materials sourcing, production, quality assurance, fulfillment and delivery, among others.
Having done all the legwork of lining up the labor and materials, I don't expect any major surprises but if things change or we are fortunate enough to reach or exceed our goal, then I will be communicating with backers to let everyone know what is going on.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
