The Game Masters Tome and Player's Compendium (Relaunch)
Relaunching 5th Edition journals to organize a full campaign of session prep/world-building, and facilitate play and note taking.
This is a relaunch of the original Game Master's Tome & Player's Compendium Kickstarter campaign, which failed. We have worked with our manufacturer to allow us to bring the same journals to you at almost half the cost of the original campaign.
We need to get at least 1000 backers to allow us to make this journal at this reduced price and ship it.
The Game Master's Tome
A journal for the 5th Edition of the World's Most Popular Role-Playing Game, the Game Master's Tome is designed specifically for world-building and session prep.
We are printing this journal, with a highly customized interior and we need money for finalizing the design, which includes getting custom stat blocks made for player characters/NPCs/and Monsters, and more.
The journal is 480 pages long, A5 sized, with sections to record all the important world-building facts that you have created, and over a years worth of session prep sections. With a Hex-Map for your world, and over 100 pages devoted to world-building, you'll never be unprepared again when a player asks what the name of that tavern was you visited twenty sessions ago.
The journal will help you organize over a years worth of sessions, whether your players want to shop till they drop or they are fighting for their lives in the dankest, darkest dungeon they could find.
The Player's Compendium
The other journal we are offering is a player version of the Game Master's Tome. Like the GM version, it is 480 pages long, and has a large section to keep track of important world-building facts that you learn over the course of a campaign. At the front of the journal is an expanded character sheet, and the rear is devoted to keeping track of your plans, quests, goals, session notes, and much more!
Unlike the Game Master's Tome, there is no prototype version of this journal, and a part of this Kickstarter is going towards designing and producing it.
The Game Master's Tome has been renamed to avoid potential trademark issues and not cause any problems.
Proof of Concept to Backer Copy
The journals that we are using for the video and all the pictures that you've seen around the net are proof of concepts. What that means is we wanted to get a physical journal in hand to show people what our idea actually meant, something real that you could pick up and flip through. Without them, I don't think our outreach would be nearly as successful as it is right now.
As proof of concepts, these journals are different than what is going to ship to you. The Backer Journals will have much more design and forethought put into things like layout, artwork, and design. A survey will be conducted after the completion of this campaign to make sure that these journals will be useful to as many people as possible. It will ask questions to define how you world-build and session prep, and we hope to provide a more detailed product by doing this.
The survey will also help us finish up our last few design goals. If you pledge for a journal at any level, you will have a choice in choosing the color of the official journals. While the Game Master's Tome and the Player's Compendium can be two different colors, we cannot accommodate more than one color per journal type with our manufacturer at this time. If the majority decides the journals should be red, then all the journals will be red.
The first stretch goal adds content to every single journal. Your $18.50 pledge grows in value when the stretch goal is met, as you get more content.
$40,000 - Page Count Increase
Who doesn't want a longer journal? We certainly know that we do. If we meet this stretch goal, that means that all journals will be getting a 48 more pages for their journals, bringing the total to 528! These will be added to the world building section, to allow to keep track of even more detailed campaigns than before.
$50,000 - Paper Edging
Nothing looks classier than a book whose pages have been edged. This means that instead of a normal journal, the edges of the journal will be colored for a striking effect that increases the looks of the journal. This is most often done with gold, but we will be putting out a survey to decide on the color after the campaign is completed. See the example below.
$60,000 - End Paper Artwork
We will commission an artist to fancy the book up even more than it already is, with a beautiful end paper illustration depicting an epic battle between a group of Player Characters against an as of yet undecided monstrosity. Only the best artists will be considered, much less chosen for this task.
$150,000 - A4 Size Increase
At $150,000, we will increase the journal from A5 (moleskine sized) to A4 (rulebook sized). This will mean a considerable amount of extra room for more notes and bigger maps.
If you do not see your country listed under available shipping locations, please get in contact with us and we'll see what we can work out.
Risks and challenges
This is a relaunch of our first kickstarter project, so we are keeping things as simple as possible, but there is always the possibility of delays, most likely in manufacturing and shipping the actual journals themselves.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
