Very cool, very interactive. The layout of the campaign is great, lots of moving images, I am always interested in games that can be played with my kids down the road. This hits all the points and you are sure to have a successful campaign.

Of the early feedback (2016) reviews I’d definitely keep the undead viking one, and definitely replace the badger one, assuming you can do so without messing up the standard you’re going with.

Really enjoyed the look off the page. Very professional and easy to read. Enjoyed the video. The $85 pledge level doesn't appear on the side bar but is in the list of pledge levels on the campaign descriptions.

I'll have a review video ready for you soon.

    4. Paul Owen on April 12

One pet peeve for me: Before I play the video, I can see that the age range is 10+ and the playing time is 45-60 minutes. Once I play the video, I can't see those graphics any more, and you don't include the age range or playing time anywhere else on the page. (You do mention 3-5 players several places, so that's good.)

I'm familiar with the game, but if I weren't, I might be confused as to whether I was trying to win the race or bet on the winner. The "Objective" implies both ... which I guess is true, sort of. Try testing the language on people who don't know the game and see if they can tell what they're trying to do to win. (If it's clear to them, then you can ignore my comment.)

"Using only fuel earned this turn you choose and move as many of your ships as you like along the track toward Yutera." The part I stumble on is "move as many of your ships as you like." I thought you had to choose one ship to move for each fuel token you stored.

Under Tactics cards, I would reword "Cards that can be played on their turn" to be "Cards that can be played on an opponent's turn" for clarity.

You might need to elaborate on the "Trainer" pledge level so people understand exactly what kind of input they might have on the game if they pledge at that level.

Loved this game at UnPub 8. Good luck on the project!

3 reviews are still expected so I will add them. I like at least two of the old reviews... you don't think I should use any?

      Kurt Miller on April 10

I thought the video was well-balanced and narrated perfectly. Not too fast or too slow.

In the first sentence under the banner, should the verb 'gain' be capitalized like 'Manage' and 'Sabotage' before it? Sentence posted here: "Wager. Manage Fuel Reserves, Sabotage your opponents, and gain the most money as you lead your squad to victory in a far off galaxy."

I agree with Matthew regarding the "tactical movement choices" and the usage of "take-that". It just doesn't feel right. Could it be "and light take-that player interaction'?

I think the video and the rules summary overlap too much. Like Matthew before, maybe an upload of the rulebook or an additional set of photos/graphics to break the text up.

If you could add the dimensions of the box, that might be helpful too. I know some people base some decisions on storage abilities.

Graphic and font-wise, I think everything is easy to read and decipher. Obviously I've played the game before so there's some bias but there's no confusion on the pieces, counts, or what you are trying to do.

Other than that, I look forward to seeing your project launch. Super excited for you all!

    7. Matthew Yeager on April 10

The video is great, wouldn’t change a thing there. I also really like the term “tactical movement choices”. Very nice. If only you could come up with a similar euphemism for “take that” ; P
The parts that concern me are: The “how to play” section reads like a full rulebook, maybe it could be summarized and a link to the actual rulebook added?
And you’re right the reviews of the 2016 version do not really reflect that well on the game. If Ken gets back to you in time, maybe replace the badger banter blurb with Ken’s?
Other than that, it looks great! Excited for you!
      -Matt

About

Players strive to earn the most Money (points) by skillfully piloting their squad of ships through the race to Yutera AND by wagering on the actual winner of the race.

Moonshot is played over 12 rounds. At the beginning of each round, players will take turns wagering on who they think will win the race. Players are limited to one wager per round and they cannot wager on their own squad in the early rounds of the game.

Beginning with the first player and proceeding clockwise, on your turn you will first collect fuel, by rolling the four 12-sided dice and recording the result in your command center, along with any bonus fuel you may have earned.

Using only fuel earned this turn you choose and move as many of your ships as you like along the track toward Yutera. Each ship uses one entire tank of fuel at a time to move and fuel cannot be saved from turn to turn.

As your ships pass the planets in the race you earn points toward your final score. You earn the most points when a ship finishes the race.

If your ship lands in a space occupied by another one of your ships, they will link together and travel as a team.

If your ship lands in a space occupied by an opponent's ship, you will bump that ship, sending it back to start. When you bump a ship you earn a bonus roll to be used right away, and the owner of the bumped ship draws a Tactics Card.

Tactics Cards give players who have returned to the start a one-time tactical advantage. There are 4 types of cards in the game that will help you get an edge over your opponents:

  • Cards that can be played on your turn
  • Cards that can be played on an opponent's turn
  • Cards that can be played at any time
  • Cards that must be played immediately

Each player starts the game with one card, with a hand limit of 3 cards. Cards will be placed in your hand when drawn, except "immediately" cards which are played as soon as they are drawn.

Your turn will continue until you have expended all earned fuel for the turn, then you will pass the dice to the next player. After each player has completed their turn, the round ends and you begin the next round with the wagering phase.

The game ends when one of the following occurs:

  • All of a player's ships have finished the race
  • The 12th round of play ends

At the end of the game, players add wagering winnings to their total score according to the finishing positions of their chosen factions.

The winner is the player with the most points!

Risks and challenges

Moonshot is the second tabletop game project for Fisher Heaton Games. My first successful campaign funded in November 2017 and delivered to backers in January 2018. Based on the positive feedback I have received about component quality and expedience in the campaign for Intelle, I feel confident in our ability to provide a top quality product and to deliver before the deadline. This is a more component rich product and we are dealing with components that are new to us like neoprene mats and custom dice, but I believe in our manufacturer in China and their ability to deliver top quality on our behalf.

We have been play-testing and honing the game since 2016. Your support will help us to finalize the game, finish artwork, manufacture the game and deliver it to backers.

As was the case with Intelle, I welcome comments and suggestions from the community. I believe they will ultimately help to elevate the Limited Edition of Moonshot to being its best self.

Moonshot has been a lot of fun to create. It has been played by hundreds of people of varied ages, backgrounds, gamer levels, and in varied environments. I am proud of the experience it offers. I am looking forward to sharing it with you. -David Abelson
