As you know (or are now reminded), Christopher's birthday is coming up as of March 4th. Since Chris is notoriously hard to buy gifts for (or perhaps I suck at buying gifts?), I was thinking that for his birthday, it would be neat to surprise him with a Kickstarter to raise money for him to be able to self-publish another book of poetry. This means that no one should share this link or this idea with him until his birthday on March 4th, when I will share the link with him for him to see.
If his words resonate with you as much as they do with me, I feel as though this is almost a selfish gift for ourselves. However, I know this is something he is interested in doing and it truly is a gift to the rest of the world.
It is anticipated that the project will come to fruition by year end to provide Chris time to gather his compilation and engage in the necessary design. He indicated that he is already working on a second book and thus, the funding would be provided at an opportune time to get this off the ground.
P.S. If we raise more than the goal, that's great! It will take more than that to publish and the money will certainly be useful for Chris.
Risks and challenges
Well, I suppose the risk is that you might cry when reading some of his poetry. It may take a few months or up to a year for this anthology to come to fruition as Chris writes and compiles new work, but it will eventually land in your lap as you sip on a comforting, warm beverage, feeling deeply understood, seen, and heard. What's a few months for a full heart?
The challenges that come with completion of the project entail the usual difficulties of getting something through production, with respect to catching formatting errors and the like before it is able to go to press. There may be a few revised iterations that could slow down the process to get the novel published. However, through Amazon, it is relatively easy for the self-publication process to occur and for revisions to be made as needed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
