She's a bad girl. He's even worse and he would rather she not know about it.
Looking for a love story that doesn't romanticize violence? In this first Act, our parody introduces a teenage girl with a keen eye for goth-punk fashion and clearly enjoys martial arts as a hobby. Getting married is not on her to-do list, despite her high class title. Part of her knows marriage is a noblewoman's ticket to a secure life of luxury and yet she would rather be disowned. Her parents are just as inconsiderate and impatient for results as she is and seek a fortune teller to settle the argument. Is her fate one of choice?
The tale is set in a meta-universe where char-actors play roles in the story as a contemporary parody and commentary of the Classical Greek myth of Eros and Psyche, which traditionally centres on how a young girl is deflowered and matures into a woman. I wish to reverse the gender expectations and energy of the lead couple to reflect a less represented romance. I feel there are not enough (or any) romantic stories with underrepresented and marginalized identities depicted in an empathetic fashion that appeal to graphic novel and Japanese manga readers.
The char-actors in the meta-verse make appearances in the preface and bloopers at the end provide a different lens from which to interpret the gender and sexuality of the roles in the parody. Most of the protagonists in this heteronormative narrative are played by LGBT char-actors. They too have their own stories and comments in the background of the production of the parody that humanize their issues. Their stories will be published under the title Unspoken after this series concludes.
Initially published as a webcomic at http://www.tapastic.com/series/The-Myth-of-Eros-and-Psyche, the extended story scenes in the book fill in the gaps of Psyche's backstory. The Myth of Eros and Psyche is a 5 Act Production. You can get a preview of the book titles in order of our scheduled year of release:
- ACT 1 Eros' Plan (2017)
- ACT 2: Psyche's Secret (2018)
- ACT 3: Demeter's Advice (2019)
- ACT 4: Aphrodite's Wrath (2020)
- ACT 5: Zeus' Blessing (2021)
According to our webcomic schedule, we are currently releasing abridged content for Act 4. We anticipate the end of the webcomic within the next 2-3 years, after-which we will continue to improve the artwork and complete the extended story in graphic novel form.
The 196 pages to Eros' Plan are all complete and we are in the process of finalizing the proof with Print Ninja. Your backing will count towards preorders and printing costs.
