Departures is a short film about the limitless love between a parent and child and the heartbreaking event of a father losing his daughter. We follow a desperate father throughout a single night, risking everything to give his dying daughter the comfort she deserves. This takes him on a journey in which he tries to prove himself as a parent but that will cause him to take actions he never thought himself capable of.
The love between a parent and child is stronger than any love I have encountered in my life. I am fascinated by what love really is and this inspired me to tell a very intimate but unusual love story. In my life my parents have always been a beacon of trust and comfort. They are the reason I am who I am today and this is very much a film for them.
One of the strong underlying themes of the film is the disconnect society has created between man and nature. Many people have forgotten their true being, our busy lives keep everyone running around in a trance; money, career, fashion, celebrities, we have made our entire life about artificial and superficial means. In Departures we symbolize this through beautiful and powerful imagery that plays a strong part in the climax of the film.
Departures will be a short drama film that involves and engages the audience. With very minimal dialogue we want to make the most of the medium and tell the story through images. With subtle clues throughout the film we build up to a finale where the viewer is able to understand the character's motivations, making everything come together in the last shot.

Departures is in the pre-production stage and is scheduled to shoot in the second half of May. The film will be shot on the RED Epic camera for a beautiful cinematic result.
We are currently working on:
- concept/prop design
- story boards
- location scouts
The film will be shot during 3 consecutive nights on a variety of locations, all of which are located in the city of Singapore.
Departures features a few very important visual effects shots that are key moments in our story. The post production of the film will be handled by our professional team currently working at one of the best visual effects studios in the world; Industrial Light & Magic. Their experience and artistry will guarantee us beautiful imagery. The post production is scheduled to be completed in September of this year.

Without you this film cannot happen. This is a passion project for everyone involved and we are making this film because we believe we can give people a powerful and meaningful experience. However, making a film costs a lot of money and we need some funds in order to pay for our camera equipment, transportation, food for the crew, actors, costumes, props, the list goes on. All of the money raised here will go into our production, every dollar counts!
Departures will get its own official website soon! For now follow our Facebook page for regular updates.

From the entire team, we thank you, your contribution means the world to us.
Risks and challenges
Rental of gear and equipment. Camera, grips, lights and transportation for crew and equpiment. Essentialls that we need to invest at least 50 -60 % of our budget on.
About 30% of this film will be shot from inside and outside a moving car. Car rigs as well as lighting the car appropriately at night is not easy so a cosiderable amount of money needs to be spent to make this look good, as well as safe.
One of our props, specifically a device which could change the life of our hero, needs to be intricately designed so it looks believable. It's just not possible for us to throw a bunch of stuff together and make it look convincing. We would need to hire an experienced prop builder to craft the object from scratch based on our designs.
We would need that perfect view of the skyline of Singapore as our backdrop. Unfortunately that perfect view does not come for free. As this would essentially play a huge role in our film during it's climax, it's imperitive we shoot at the right location. Our funds would be funnelled into securing that location so we would have permission to set up and shoot there for at least one whole night with our talents.
Most of our crew have been generous to work for free. It's a purely collaborative, independant project, and they have been brought together with the goal of realising a strong vision and a sincere story. It would only be fair that the people working on it be fed well so they can keep giving their best. A hungry crew is an unhappy crew, and we would like to treat our crew respectfully. They are the hands that will essentially build this film.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
