Rum Row is a four part limited series created by Andrew Maxwell and Michele Bandini. The superbly talented Gavin Mitchell, is joining the team and taking over art and color duties for issues 3-4.
Our goal is to raise funds to print issue #3, with any additional funds going directly into the production of issue #4.
If you're a fan of the Rocketeer, Indiana Jones, Boardwalk Empire, alternative history, dieselpunk, or just a fan of adventure in general, then this is the story for you.
To avoid dry laws, rumrunners and patrons alike have taken to the sky. Hot air balloons and dirigibles now serve as speakeasies and black markets for alcohol. The press has coined these flying bars above New York "Rum Row".
Faced with the growing concern over the lawlessness of its airspace, the city has created a special aerial vice squad to monitor and crack down on the sale of alcohol.
Our story follows officer Jack Tinson, as he pursues the Captain of the elusive dirigible speakeasy - The Duchess.
But the deeper Jack dives into the Row, he quickly realizes enemies and allies abound on both sides of the law.
To make matters worse, much more dangerous parties are looking to join the fray.
As the co-creator of Rum Row, I have been extremely lucky to work with not one amazing artist, but two! Michele's art on issues #1-2 perfectly sets up our story, as you can see examples here -
Due to Michele's compacted schedule at Marvel, Gavin has since taken over the reins. Not only in art, but as well as the colors, and has truly hit the ground running! We couldn't be happier with how things have turned out!
All three issues are already completed. Issues #1-2, are printed and ready to ship. Through this Kickstarter campaign, we will fund the printing costs for issue #3. Issue #1-2 contain 24 fully colored story pages, and #3 coming in at 26.
All issues include story inspiration, sketches, and other fun back matter materials.
In addition to the books, all physical packages will include the beautifully detailed aerial "Circus Gang" 8.5 x 11 art print, by the fantastic artist Juni Ba.
Despite his hectic schedule, co-creator Michele still made time to do a variant cover of issue #3. As you can see, it came out great!
For those backers looking for a more unique experience, Rum Row artist Gavin Mitchell, will be opening a very a limited 5 slot digital commission tier. Backers at this level will receive a personalized illustration of themselves in either a "1920s Style Mugshot" (as seen below using myself as the lab rat).
OR... (THE KEY WORD HERE). Backers may choose for Gavin to create a fictional sky gang around you and your interests. For myself, I went with a writing theme. Hence the "East Side Scribes" and the giant quill symbol.
Again to be clear, backers may choose the Mugshot option OR the gang design, BUT NOT BOTH. Also a reminder, this is a solo portrait. Please do not include your entire family, or all seven of your cats. We love family and animals as much as anybody, but you're the star in this (unless you choose one of them). Gavin spends a lot of time and effort into these personalized commissions, so decide on what you would prefer most. This tier will come with a high-res digital download link, as well as 8.5 x 11 print of the piece, and book rewards.
