Rum Row is a four part limited series created by Andrew Maxwell and Michele Bandini. Rum Row was launched on Kickstarter and subsequently releases each new issue on the platform.
This Kickstarter's goal is to raise funds to print issue #2, and reprint issue #1. Any additional funds will go directly into the production of issue #3.
To avoid dry laws, rumrunners and patrons alike have taken to the sky. Hot air balloons and dirigibles now serve as speakeasies and black markets for alcohol. The press has coined these flying bars above New York "Rum Row".
Despite operating outside the law, Rum Row has become a worldwide tourist attraction. Fostering its own unique community and black market economy, growing into individual floating districts, governed by various sky gangs.
Faced with the growing concern over the lawlessness of its airspace, the city has created a special aerial vice squad to monitor and crack down on the sale of alcohol.
In Issue 1 we introduced police officers Jack and his partner Conrad as they attempt to take down the Row’s premier speakeasy - The Duchess and her crew.
In Issue 2, we get to further explore the Row’s various districts, as Jack and Conrad come head to head with the deadly sky gangs that inhabit them.
Both issue one and two are fully completed, and ready for print. Here's a short preview of what to expect from the newest issue, number two -
In addition to reprinting issue one.
Both issues one and two are made up of 24 full colored pages of story, with additional back up materials in each. Including the original inspiration for the story, concept art, and more...
Issue one even includes a 5 page black and white story, which was the first thing Michele and myself ever did together.
Michele Bandini is the co-creator and artist on Rum Row, and has worked for many different companies from Marvel, MTV and Zenescope.
Adam Pruett is handling lettering, prepress, and assisting with editorial duties. You may have seen his work in DHP, Rise, Savage Dragon, or Captain Ultimate.
Sonia Harris designed the logo for Rum Row, and is an experienced graphic designer working in marketing, advertising, and branding. Her many comic book credits include Sex and Gødland, see more here.
Derek Dow is a full time colorist and artist, working in everything from comics, animation, to video games.
Your backing would enable us to pay for a print run of issue two, and reprint issue one, with enough copies to send off to backers and some leftover to sell at conventions. In addition this will cover incentives, shipping, and of course, the fees (5% off the top, plus credit card fees.) Anything remaining will go directly into funding for issue three.
In addition to the books, we are offering a variety of other rewards as well.
Rum Row themed whiskey/pint glass set by Daniel White. Unfortunately for shipping reasons, these glasses will not be available for international backers.
In addition to the aerial map poster of Rum Row, Goran Gligović's Dogfight print will both be available at 11 x 14 size.
Below is a breakdown of the individual reward tiers.
At the end of the campaign we will be using BackerKit. This will allow you to purchase add-ons by selecting additional a la carte items once your shipping information has been confirmed. As previously stated, the whiskey/pint glasses will not be available for international backers.
We will also be offering two more supplementary items not offered in the initial reward tiers as add-on items, for those interested.
Co-creator and artist Michele Bandini's art print for issue 1, for $10 dollars.
For those that missed our previous Kickstarter campaign, or are interested in another fun adventure series, can purchase the oversized hardcover of Aldous Spark Vol. 1, for $25 dollars (shipping included). Not available for international backers.
Risks and challenges
Both issues are 100% finished and ready for print. So the only time constraints will be the printing and shipping process. This is also my third Kickstarter project, so we have a good idea of what to expect during the process of the campaign.
All digital content will be e-mailed within one week of the Kickstarter funds being transferred into our account. Art prints, pins, posters, and all other reward levels will be sent to the printers within one week of the Kickstarter campaign closing.
We have taken all reasonable measure to optimize this process to provide premiums to our backers as quickly as possible. As soon as we receive the merchandise, we will promptly package and ship each order to ensure you receive your premiums as quickly as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
