The Darkening of Spaces is an interactive generative video installation. Using complex algorithms and randomization to generate unique images and textures throughout, the piece grows over time while being interacted with. It is a dark mass of animated lines that are "controlled" by the user. It consists of camera tracking the users and generating the visual elements based on when and when they are in space. This pieces was accepted into a juried art show called "Making IT" for recent graduates of my school (The University of the Arts in Philadelphia).
The installation itself is not the only output. High quality stills taken from unique interactions are then printed and signed, meaning that each print is unique. These prints are the rewards for my backers as well as a digital copy of the custom program I wrote, so that they can create their own images.
My goal is to have this project realized to it's fullest extent. This would include a high quality and smooth interaction with the participants/ viewers of the installation. The backers help pay for materials such as sensors, paper, and electronics. With all of the help of my backers, the art opening will be a success! It is not only about the installation itself, but also the opening, which everyone is more than welcome to come to on October 22nd !
