Post MACE update
Just a quick note to show you our Table of Contents, a work in progress of course:
News from MACE 2017:
Ran two tables of four each today and we are running two tables of six each at 8:00 pm!
Overwhelming feedback on the system and how it plays and feels:
"There are no weak characters, someone can ALWAYS do something to help"
"The chase rules are really fun and keeps everyone engaged"
"I was afraid to cast some of my spells, but when I did, yeah. I felt like a god"
We are including a character sheet of one of our pre-gens. She is a spear-focused Myrmidon. The layout is done by Karl Keesler, who will be doing the final layout of the rulebook.
Our goal is to create a fantasy role-playing game which carries the banner of the Original Seed, meets a few cousins along the way, and then sits down to drink a few rounds with some modern game design aspects. To that end, we give you Oubliettes, Sorcery & Reavers.
We make adventuring dangerous, but we also make the PCs heroes, capable of daring deeds from the onset. Combat is visceral and plays well. Your Magi won't cast spells once and then forget them; they will cast their spells until it kills them...sometimes literally. Gone are ability scores which are of no use other than determining the modifier. We skipped the 3-18 and only use modifiers to your Attributes. We've made the game more about player choices and GM rulings vice mother-may-I; play how you want using our framework for adventure and role-play!
Our funding goal is small, really to cover the art, design fees and to offset the production/shipping costs associated with our partners at DriveThruRPG.
And so, on to Stretch Goals:
- $2K: We'll create a Modern Hack and Sci-Fi hack of the rules so you don't have to do it yourselves!
- $3K: We'll include the races from our non-traditional, non-Tolkien campaign setting Ul-Zakhad (3 playable, 2 enemies) AND three optional classes (one for each base class)
- $4k: We'll detail out the Mystery Cults, providing history, ethos, and base spells commonly found in each, for your Initiate Magi out there.
- $5K: We'll design a gazetteer of the vaguely mentioned Dhalla - The Shining Dale and Ul-Zakhad.
If we go beyond those numbers, well, we will be pleasantly surprised and will dig deep to provide new goals. Maybe some sample adventures? Also, tell us what you'd like to see as Stretch Goals and we'll do our best to incorporate them.
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter, that speaks for itself. However, the game system is complete and the book is in art and layout. We've had four different GMs run five one-shot adventures and micro-campaigns for a variety of player groups, and we've received some fantastic feedback and accolades for producing a fun, enjoyable, and unique gaming system. Our beta testers can't wait to get their hands on the rulebook, and we think you'll feel the same way!!
This is not the first published piece of RPG material from the lead designer, he's written for Savage Worlds (look for Ashen Thorns (http://www.rpgnow.com/product/215607/Ashen-Thorns), it is PWYW) for his style and an affirmation that he is a part of the industry.
