Friday June 29 Update

Hello Kickstarters,

Happy Update Friday!

All molds are in the process of being built and we have a rough production schedule. With a few of the changes we had to make to ensure the best product possible, our estimated date to ship will be a few weeks later than we expected. We appreciate your understanding as we felt these changes were very important to produce an exceptional product.

This image shows the primary change we made. We are injection molding another part directly over the cable and connector inside the product. This locks everything together to keep the wires held securely and prevent twisting of the housings on the metal cable.

Estimated Schedule

July 9 - Pre-order Production Materials
July 13 - USB and Micro|USB Molds complete
July 20 - Apple Molds complete
July 24 - Micro|CAPS mold complete
July 24 - First production samples, 50 of each product

The production samples are a small quantity of the final production version, including packaging, that we will use for aggressive testing to make sure there are no production issues. Assuming there aren't any major problems, we should be running full production within a week or two of receiving the samples. So we had estimated shipping in late July, but it now looks like we will be a few weeks after that. Again, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we put the finishing touches on the best product possible for you.

Amazon Payments

At this point, Kickstarter and Amazon are no longer attempting to charge your credit cards if there was an error. We will be contacting each backer who still had a card error by email in the next few days to make sure you are aware of the problem. We will continue our discount codes for http://www.fusechicken.com until July 15th for you to receive the same cost as Kickstarter pledges. All orders by that date will include the USB Extension cable also.

kickstart25 - 17% off for 1 or 2 (reduces each one to $25)

kickstart75 - 37% off orders over $120 - reduces orders of 4 down to $75

kickstart100 - 44% off orders over $180 - reduces orders of 6 down to $100

Shipping Addresses and Bobine Selection

We've been finalizing the details we will be sending out for the Kickstarter survey to collect your shipping addresses and Bobine selection. We will need this information in order to pre-order the production materials. So you can expect to see this within the next week. Because we cannot send it more than once, we ask that you use the form at http://www.fusechicken.com/contact with a subject of 'Survey Change' if you need to modify any information after you submit it.

Friday Production Update

Hello Kickstarters,

It's Friday, which means that it's Update Day. There is not a lot of new information for you since we sent an update out a few days ago, so we'll keep this short today.

In our last update, we mentioned that we had finished a few final changes to the designs before having them start cutting the steel. We reviewed these changes with the factory and everything is complete. So at this point, we are just waiting on the factory to cut the steel for the molds. We are expecting a final schedule early next week.

Amazon Payments

We still have about 200 backers who have been unable to correct credit card problems with Amazon payments. Kickstarter and Amazon will only continue trying to charge your card for another 12 hours. So, if you still want to get in, you will need to get that resolved right away. If you are unable to fix it with Amazon, please see the previous project update for the discount codes to our online store at http://store.fusechicken.com

Stickers

A giant box of stickers just arrived for our $75 level backers!

Thanks Kickstarters and have a great weekend!

Jon

Thank You!

Kickstarters,

Thank you so much for the overwhelming support of this project and for taking this journey with us for Une Bobine! In 40 days, you made Une Bobine a huge success at 2165% funded with $212,265. This is about 11,000 Bobines that we will be shipping out for rewards! We couldn't have done this without you!

Now that we are through the funding phase, this update will give you some information on what happens next and help to answer some of your questions.

We are in the process for Step 2. All steel for the molds is in the factory and we have given the factory approval to begin cutting the Micro|USB and USB housing molds. We also finished some minor adjustments to the Apple housing CAD design to provide better strength on the finished parts. We expect to be approving these molds to be built in the next few days. After that, we will be in a waiting period because it takes about 4 weeks to build the molds.

The metal for the cable takes a few weeks for delivery to the factory, so we will be placing that order within the next few weeks so that it is available and ready as soon as the molds are complete.

We are still on target for shipping around the end of July.

Amazon Payments

There are a few hundred backers still having credit card problems with Amazon. The primary issues are expired cards, incorrect card numbers, or incorrect billing addresses. Kickstarter will continue trying to charge your credit card for 3 more days. If you have received an email from Amazon, it is important that you correct the issue in order for us to ship your Bobines.

This Amazon Troubleshooting page might assist you in resolving the issue. You are able to change to an entirely different card if needed.

We realize that some people might not be able to correct this issue. So we have added a few discount codes to our online store at www.fusechicken.com so that you can still get in on the Kickstarter pricing. Orders from the online store that are placed within the next few weeks will ship at the same time as the Kickstarter rewards. Feel free to also pass these on to your friends or family that might have missed out on the pledge deadline.

kickstart25 - 17% off for 1 or 2 (reduces each one to $25)

kickstart75 - 37% off orders over $120 - reduces orders of 4 down to $75

kickstart100 - 44% off orders over $180 - reduces orders of 6 down to $100

In order to get these included with our initial production order, the discount codes will expire on July 15th. The code can be entered on the second screen of the checkout process.

Shipping Addresses and Bobine Selection

We have been receiving questions about shipping addresses and choosing which Bobines you want to receive. These will all be handled with Kickstarter's survey functionality. In a few weeks, you will receive an email from Kickstarter with a web form survey. This will allow you to enter your shipping address and select which combination of Bobines you would like. Kickstarter only allows us to send this once, so we want to make sure that we know everything we need before we send it.

Final 12 Hours

Kickstarters,

We cannot express how overwhelmed we are by your support of Une Bobine over the last 40 days. We could never have done this without you! With about 12 hours remaining, we are 2000% funded at $200,000 and will be making 10,000 Bobines to ship out to you!

The project officially completes tonight at 10:10PM EST.

The rest of this post will be information for our regularly scheduled Friday update.

We are still in the Mold Production phase. This will be the longest of all 8 phases as it is the most complex.

We have received mold tooling drawings from the factory for all 8 molds and have been diligently reviewing them and making changes throughout this week. We expect to have them approved early next week. This will give the factory our approval to cut the steel for the molds.

What happens next?

After the project completes tonight, Kickstarter/Amazon will charge your credit card for your pledge. I understand this can take a little while because of expired cards or address changes. If there is a problem with your credit card, you will receive an email from Kickstarter or Amazon with instructions on how to correct it.

Can I still purchase Bobines after 10:10PM EST?

Absolutely! Our store will be available later today at http://www.unebobine.com. We will also be providing a list of other retailers that will carry Une Bobine over the coming weeks.

When will I receive the Kickstarter survey?

The survey will be used to collect your shipping addresses as well as your selection between the 4 Bobine versions. This can only be sent out once, so we will be taking our time to ensure we have all the information we need included in it. So it will be at least a few weeks before you receive it.

How can I keep in touch, get updates, or ask questions?

You can continue to send Kickstarter messages and comments. You may also contact us through our new official Twitter account @fusechicken or our Facebook page at facebook.com/fusechicken. If you don't have access to those social networks, you can send a direct email to contact@fusechicken.com.

We will continue to send out updates every Friday, which you will receive by email.

Thanks Kickstarters!

Jon

Packaging, Colors, and Production Schedule

Hey Kickstarters,

Une Bobine launched at 7:07 on May 7...exactly 1 month ago. So we thought it fitting to give you our weekly Friday update 1 day early. This update might be a long read, but we have a lot of details to share with you.

Packaging

The packaging design is complete except for final photography of Une Bobine on the phones and the final UPC codes. We took a lot of your requests to come up with this design and hope you like it. We hope to have the photography done for the main picture on the front of the box in the next few weeks.

Colors

We have been watching your comments as well as responding to direct messages with all of your color preferences....everything from black and white to hot pink. While we would love to offer every color under the sun, we cannot get quantity price breaks for different colors. So we must choose 1 color for iPhone and 1 color for Android. We feel the best approach is to stick with the colors you are used to that came with your device. Une Bobine - For iPhone will have white connectors and Une Bobine - Micro|USB will have black connectors. Both will have the natural steel cable since that is one of the distinguishing features of Une Bobine.

Production

A lot has happened in 30 days. We have compressed what would typically take 4 months into 1 month. When we launched Une Bobine, we needed to make a single injection mold that would build 2 parts. With your funding, we have been able to add Micro|USB as well as improve the product design. Because of this, we are now making 8 injection molds to build 15 parts. To keep it simple for you, we have made this production schedule graphic so you can easily see the progress when we post updates.

1 | Mold Production - As we mentioned a few weeks ago, we have already begun mold production. We just received the CAD drawings for the mold design and are in the process of reviewing them. This is one step to ensure that the production parts conform to our specifications. As soon as we approve the mold design, the factory will begin cutting the steel for all of the injection molds.

2 | Molds Complete - As the molds are nearing completion and being prepped to produce production parts, we will pre-order the materials required for production. This will include all of the metal for the coil as well as the connectors and wiring. This is to have all materials available on-hand when we are ready for production.

3 | Production Samples - The factory will build 200 units for a production test sample. These will be used for our production validation testing.

4 | Funds Released - From Kickstarter's FAQ, it takes 14 days for Amazon to release funds after the project is complete and up to an additional 7 days for the funds to be transferred. Our aim is to begin full production as quickly as possible after the funds are transferred.

5 | Full Production - Full production will actually only take a few days because we will have all required materials pre-ordered and ready.

6 | Quality Testing - With any large scale project of this nature, it is important to test each production run. The factory will be performing this testing by pulling samples from each lot before approving the shipment.

7 | Production Complete - We plan to ship all Kickstarter units by air freight to our office, which should only take a few days. Then they will start getting boxed for shipment to you.

8 | Une Bobine Shipped - Une Bobine shipped to backers all over the world!

How often will we give updates?

Starting next week, we will provide weekly updates on Friday regardless if we have major new information or not. We may also provide updates at other times if we have important information to share. Some aspects of production tend to be a waiting game, such as the time to cut the steel for the molds, and at times like that we ask that you are patient with us. We will also be providing ongoing progress updates most days on our blog at http://fusechicken.wordpress.com

Answers to some commonly asked questions:

How do I select Une Bobine/Petite Bobine and iPhone/Android?

You don't need to make your selections yet. Kickstarter has a feature that allows us to send out a website form/survey after the project completes. We will use this to allow you to make your selections and also provide us with your shipping address. All pledge levels will have the choice between the 4 versions. At pledge levels with multiple Bobines, you can mix and match in any combination.

What about the iPhone 5?

Right now, there are probably 5 people at Apple that know what the next connector will be...if it even will be different. So this is purely speculation at this point, which makes it very difficult to say if we'll have an adapter, a new version, or something else. But whatever we do, we will try our best to make sure our Kickstarter backers get some sort of discount on whatever we come out with.

Does it work with.....?

We are keeping updated lists of phones and cases that have been tested on our blog at http://fusechicken.wordpress.com
