The Machu Picchu Vol.2 are... the best kind of weird :D.
- the world's first 4 elements dice :3
- a blend between 3 kinds of awesome craftsmanship,
- a symbol for a truly fascinating corner of the world.
This way, something as simple as a dice design becomes an opportunity to create something incredibly unique. We feel confident to say there's really nothing quite like them.
Choose between ANY of our AWESOME designs and wood types :o
They might remind you of the classic dice design, yet they are not. We take on the classic forms and transform them into something bold and new.
'Apu' is quechua for 'mountain-god'. We wanted something simple, that would take inspiration of elements and forms found in the Inca culture and its landscape, and give back something different and beautiful.
For these, we use gorgeous iconography from the annual calendar of the Incas, as well as the chakana (Inca’s symbol for the Tree of Life). A masterpiece.
Inspired by 'Pachamama', the inca goddess known as the mother of earth and time, this beautiful design embraces and evolves upon traditional iconography from the Andes.
AYAHUASCA | UNLOCKED!
Inspired by the concept of ancestral ritual of Ayahuasca, which traditionally was believed as a way to reach a more clear and profound state of conscience and catarsis... through a intricate mixture of visions and reality.
Last campaign was amazing. We are immensely grateful to everyone who: first believed in us, then gave us such heart whelming comments and feedback, and finally... encouraged us to come back :) We owed it to them to do it right!
So... we tested, tested and then tested some more. We tried many new materials and toolings. We've been hopeful and discouraged... excited and depressed... jumping around and flat on the floor.. Until (finally!)...
With Vol. 2, we get to present our best dice to date. And a beautiful blend between four amazing materials:
- High quality 950 silver: We find 950/1000 to be the best composition for the job.
- Natural gemstones: Chrysocolla, lapis lazuli, sodalite.
- Natural seashells
- Beautiful wood:We tested many varieties and found walnut and mahogany to be the best fit because of it color and finish.
It's ALL KINDS of cool to say it out loud: these are the World's First 4 Elements Dice!
It didn't come easy though. It took navigating between countless artisan's shops, trying to find the best team for a job never done before. It took finding the perfect balance between three different branches of masterful craftsmanship.
- Jewelry making: We work with incredible talented artisans with over 15 years of experience making beautiful silver jewelry.
- Wood carving: We tried many kinds of woodworkers, and find the perfect fit with a shop dedicated to the delicate art of making musical instruments. After some prototyping, we felt in love with the finish they were able to deliver to their finished product.
- Stone carving: This guys are masters at turning gorgeous gemstones into perfect puzzle pieces for our silver framed designs.
We brought together a team of people tremendously talented and excited about bringing these project to life. A truly A-Team.
We took the amazing feedback from our first campaign and made it primary guideline. The result?
- More precise inlays: We are working very fine tooling to achieve clean cuts.
- Greater durability: Wood's toughness and tenacity makes it a great material for the hard life a dice has to endure :P
- Better balance: The finer tooling and wood's density allows us to maintain a better center of gravity.
Xierra is a crazy little company with a big dream: to keep craftsmanship alive, current and relevant. We want to build products that give local artisans the opportunity to reach and share their amazing work to the world. One crazy little product at the time :)

You are real-life heroes, and we are thinking about tattooing ourselves with the full list of your names. Ok, that last part is a figurative speech, but still! You guys rock.

Risks and challenges
Every project that involves craftsmanship has a harder time scaling that something that's purely industrial. On our first campaign, we faced this challenge and learned quiet a bit.
We learned that having some budget to start production ASAP, instead of waiting for the funds to get to you... is a huge win. That's our plan right now. We have some budget, not a lot... but enough to get production started as soon as we get to 100%. This will be a valuable timesaver. We also have a slightly bigger team, so we feel we can fulfill orders at a more efficient rate.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
