Dreamcatcher is a fast paced card game that puts you in the role of a divine entity, in a contest to confine nightmares that trouble mankind.
Each round, players need to spend their dream power in an attempt to catch nightmares, and make a careful decision to either play fair, or to cheat. Anticipate the actions of your fellow gods and outwit them at every turn.

Players start with a hand full of dream power cards, two choice cards who return to the hand and a unique divine intervention card that is laid openly on the table. Every turn, an number of nightmares are drawn depending on the number of players. Clockwise, starting with the player with the first player card, the players put a dream power card plus a choice card next to the nightmare he or she wants to catch. When everyone has placed their cards, turn them over to see whose strategy paid off. If everyone played fair and faced their fears, the player with the highest dream power wins the nightmare. But if someone cheated their destiny, it will be a different story...
Dreamcatcher is inspired by the prisoner's dilemma, and players have the opportunity to cheat and steal nightmares, even if they don’t have the highest dream power on the table. But if every one cheats, the nightmare gets away, and the cheaters are severely punished. On the other hand, if you’re playing fair but another player outwits you, you still get a reward in the form of a dream card, which can give you a one time boost in dream power, or give you an edge at the end of the game.
When every player’s stash of dream power is depleted, whoever gathered the most nightmare points is crowned victor, and has the honour of calling themselves the ultimate god of dreams!
The work-in-progress rules can be found here.
Every player takes on the role of a divine entity who guards the realm of dreams. As a being of great power, everyone has a unique divine intervention, a formidable ability that can be used only once every game.
'Each time you pull out Dreamcatcher you're in for a different experience, depending on how well you know the other players, how often you've played the game, or if you took out their 12 card for the cost of a 1 in the previous go. The artwork and theme are lovely. I love the simple infographic style artwork and the dream-themed decks work very well. All in all, a few hands of Dreamcatcher is a great way to spend time with friends, get inside their minds and become their worst nightmare - somebody who tricks them every time!'
'Very easy to learn and play, yet it makes you stop and think each time you play. Just like any good trick-taking game, you will be paying attention to all all other players and what cards they have played.'
'The game is pretty solid, and adds a little more deduction to the game than most other trick-taking games.'

Because Dreamcatcher will be a tiny box with a low declaration, most international backers, of 1 and 2 copies, will not get hit with customs or import fees.
The estimated delivery date is July 2018, but keep in mind this is only an estimate. Also, due to the logistics of international shipping, backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others.

The idea for Dreamcatcher originated from a yearly hack-a-thon organised by Q42 in November 2016, called w00tcamp. The original idea pitched by Arian underwent some heavy transformations before it ended up in this current format. At the end of that hack-a-thon we had an idea that was too good to be archived and forgotten, so we started the Carbon Initiative as three board game enthusiasts trying to get their first project of the ground. The name is mainly chosen because it sounds cool, and because Ron likes to joke: 'Carbon is something we all have in common'.

Risks and challenges
Because Dreamcatcher is our first Kickstarter campaign we have decided to keep it simple. This means no add-ons to the game (making shipping easier), using a game manufacturer with a known track record and deciding to use a fulfillment company to lessen the risks and complexity of shipping.
This all to ensure that our creation becomes a reality for everybody to play and enjoy.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
