WE ARE A KICKSTARTER STAFF PICK!!
Thanks for checking out our project!
The Poet is a short film and a dark comedy/drama with a lot of heart...enough heart to drive a wooden stake through it.
Drake is a quirky, gentle vampire who's enamored with the beat poets of the 1950s and hopes to follow in the footsteps of his favorite poet--Allen Ginsberg. To do this, he must move from his cabin in the woods to the bustling city and immerse himself with other writers and artists. He enlists the help of a real estate agent, Jennifer Herald, who caters to vampire clientele. What Drake doesn't know, is that Jennifer is a vampire hunter, luring in creatures of the night under the guise of helping them acquire a new home. The two form a strange and unlikely bond, but as Drake's passion for poetry grows, so too does his bloodlust, while Jennifer feels pressure to maintain her reputation as an expert vampire killer.
This film is for Damnationland, a showcase of dark films that premiere at The State Theater in Portland, ME in October and then play in various theaters around Maine for the Halloween season. It's a great way for Maine filmmakers to present their work and talent and for everyone interested in and excited about film to come together to celebrate. http://www.damnationland.com/
Who we are:
Erin Enberg, Writer/Director
Erin has freelanced in film and TV production for the last 10 years and most recently wrote/directed three short films and a stage play. The latest film, Arabel, premiered at the New Hampshire Film Fest and is an official selection at The Emerge Film Fest in Lewiston, ME and SENE Film Fest in Providence, RI. Her favorite vampire films are The Horror of Dracula with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, Werner Herzog's Nosferatu, the Spanish language version of the 1931 Dracula, and Let the Right One In.
Mark Hensley, Director of Photography
Mark's roots are in still photography, but when video came to the still camera, it was like he was putting on glasses for the first time and he could see that film production was his true passion. Mark has spent the last six years working on every short film, indie feature, commercial or music video he could find. He's had the honor of seeing several of those short films be selected or go on to win at festivals across the country. For Mark, shooting a film, long or short, is his way of life.
Erik Moody, Actor
Erik is thrilled to be reuniting with Erin and Erika (ARABEL) and Mark (Damnationland 2014's DARK) for THE POET in Damnationland 2015's short film showcase. Having workshopped the character "Drake" in THE POET's earlier stages, Erik is excited to, at last, sink his teeth into Drake's immortality.
Erika J. Wilson, Actor
Erika J. Wilson, also known by her nickname Brika Brack, is a High Honors graduate of the University of New Hampshire. She is a fearless film and stage actress, host, writer, editor, producer, model, speaker, teacher, purveyor of positivity, powerhouse of energy, debator, bacon connoisseur, animal lover, friend, free spirit and all over entertainer. She is excited and honored to reconnect with Erin and Erik after working with them on their short film Arabel, currently a multiple Film Festival official selection. She cannot wait to collaborate further and make the world a better place through their art. Shine brightly. Live. Laugh. Love. Create.
We have a crew lined up--all people we've worked with before, just waiting for the go-ahead!
