About this project
Video and text reviews are below.
In just a few years, the world will be plunged into turmoil. Countries around the world will panic, widespread chaos will ensue, and civilized society will change virtually overnight as citizens cope with the loss of a modern-day vital resource. A resource needed for commerce. A resource needed for communication. A resource needed for life-sustaining technology. A resource needed for even simple comfort. The resource… is energy.
But that time is not here yet! Thankfully, you and a handful of other enterprising individuals have seen the writing on the wall, and you know it is up to you to save the world from the upcoming energy crisis! Of course, the recent United Nations Contract request for a global energy provider worth BILLIONS of dollars doesn’t hurt, either…
Compete with other players to win the contract and ensure that your company will become the #1 global energy power for decades to come! Obtain government industry permits by using energy credits allotted by the United Nations Council for aligning yourself to their objectives. Industries you own constantly increase the energy credits you are allotted, but they also increase the terawatt-hours (energy) generated by your company! And it is ultimately out-performing your opponents in this area and hitting the optimal level of terawatt-hours that will win you the U.N. contract, and win you the game!
Each player must make optimum use of their resources and the available hexagonal areas on the board to not only achieve a victory with generating enough terawatt-hours (TWh), but must also generate more TWh than their fellow players.
In every round of play, each player will take a single turn. During this turn, you will draw a card, be “paid” in energy credits, allowed to roll the territory die, and either permit industries of your choosing or take an investment risk beforehand. Your choices in actions determine your odds of victory here!
There is an element of secrecy when drawing a grid card, as it can be your hidden weapon against your fellow players! Place them face-down in front of you to play later, or play them immediately. These can be a much-needed boost to you when played strategically!
For an added twist, each player has a unique and special ability with which they can use during the course of the game. This ability is granted by the Captain of Industry card each player selected at the beginning of the game. Use your ability to your advantage and out-maneuver your opponents! Only one player can win the United Nations Contract!
And if you optionally play with the countdown die, you’ll not only be racing other players, but racing time as well… This also makes solo play possible!
When a player reaches the TWh threshold, that round of play is finished, and the player generating the most TWh wins Game of Energy!

There weren't too many highly-polished prototype copies available for review, but for the ones we did have, the reviewers had some pretty awesome things to say about Game of Energy!
Your feedback is desired on what the remaining stretch goals would be. And as a backer, you will certainly get a chance to help change the game for the better! The stretch goals, when unlocked, will affect ALL the games, regardless of which pledge level you pick!
There are a few here that have already been priced out, and they are listed below. However, if you think these should be replaced with something else, or others added to the end, feel free to sound off in the comments section! If it's financially doable and wanted by many backers, it will be done :)
Over the years of development of this game, there have been a great many prototypes, and a great many more playtests. During this refining process, countless game pieces were created, and countless were rejected.
But in doing so, a fantastically fun game was born! And it made all the trials worth it... Of course, these trials weren't exactly painful, since there were a great many smiles along the way :)
Currently planned is the commission of art/graphic design for the box and instructions--considering how the other art and design looks, I wouldn't be concerned about this... There are a few tweaks that will be made to layouts, rules, and card effects, but these are very minor and will be completed and thoroughly playtested WELL BEFORE the deadline for manufacturing. So there will be no delays in this area!
Shipping a fairly large and heavy 5.5 lbs. (2.5 kg) game is not cheap! But as an added benefit to the backers helping to build this crazy dream, everyone pledging gets subsidized shipping! And for the backers in Europe, no need to worry about extra customs charges: it will be shipped to you from INSIDE Europe!
All of these costs are automatically added when you select your pledge, so don't worry about doing any math here! This is merely for your reference to show you how shipping your game to you is handled :)
If you wish to look up two-letter country codes, you can find that here.
West-EU: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden
Central-EU: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia
Asia: China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan
World: All other countries not listed on the chart
If you have any questions on how to work out your shipping costs (which are automatically added to your pledge), or if you are wondering why you are in one Location category as opposed to another, please message me on Kickstarter and we will work through it together! You just want to play the game! So let us make that happen :)
Big shout-out to those that played Game of Energy at GenCon 2015, on Facebook and elsewhere, and offered up many streamlining and aesthetic suggestions to really make this game pop. Thanks everyone! Your suggestions were implemented, as I am sure you can tell! Backers: feel free to suggest!
Got to give another shout-out to the ones that made the project video: Paul Cosca and Brandon Garver! Fantastic work!
And, of course, last, but CERTAINLY not least: the artists that have really went above and beyond in making this game BEAUTIFUL! There have been several artists take part in this, but there is one in particular I have worked with for quite some time now, and he is AWESOME. That would be the very talented, professional, Vicente Sivera! Seriously, this guy is gonna make it big in this business. One of the best, as far as I am concerned!
Risks and challenges
Everything, from getting the game manufactured all the way to the moment it will hit your doorstep has been quoted properly, and the reward tiers and goal set appropriately so that if we do fund, we WILL be able to fulfill all backer rewards. And we are choosing a reputable game manufacturer that is very experienced in the field! We already have good relationships with our artists, so finishing up the art that is left is not a big deal... So there really is not much risk here!
Basically, unless something huge happens like the world financial markets collapse all at once and people everywhere begin rioting, burning down our manufacturer and shipping companies, everything will go quite smoothly! If Game of Energy is funded, it will be produced and delivered in a timely manner. Yes, things like manufacturing delays can happen, but we already have a buffer built into our schedule to reasonably account for these types of delays.
