Chicago dance company Molly Shanahan/Mad Shak is seeking support for the creation of a new dance by Molly Shanahan. The Delicate Hour is a new work in Shanahan's ongoing project Stamina of Curiosity. Early iterations of Stamina, presented in Chicago and across the country over the last three years, have been called “some of the best dancing this city has seen in a long time.” (TimeOut Chicago)
In February 2012, the company will premiere The Delicate Hour at The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago, continuing its exploration of what the press calls: “Shanahan’s sinuous, utterly motivated and deeply felt movement…like nothing you’ve seen by any other troupe.” (Laura Molzahn, The Chicago Reader)
We hope you will support us in the creation of this new dance.
Shanahan’s process will begin intensively in September 2011, as she and her dancers—“one of the tightest ensembles in town” (TimeOut Chicago)—expand on what the body can discover and express through movement.
We invite you to be a part of our creative process; our wish is that you take this opportunity to learn more about us and get involved in this phase of the “Stamina of Curiosity” series. So, we’ve set up this Kickstarter campaign as a way to encourage your support as we work towards the work’s premiere in February 2012. Kickstarter works like this: we receive our funds ONLY IF we reach or exceed our goal of $5,000. It's a clear demonstration of how every backer at every level truly contributes to the success of the campaign.
In addition to everlasting gratitude, we are offering perks to bring you closer to the work (and each reward level includes the rewards from the levels before it). Creating a new dance takes a lot of time in the studio and requires resources aplenty; support from ticket sales and philanthropic organizations covers approximately 60% of our costs. By getting involved at this stage of the process, you are contributing to one of the most crucial phases of development and playing a role in creating a new work of art.
