King Zoom the Vegan Kid: Volume 1: Animals used for food, is the first in a series of non-fiction illustrated children’s books to focus on the social justice movement of our time.
In each book, King Zoom explains the What, Why and How of what it is like to be a Vegan through his real-life experiences in activism. Peaceful communication and self-care skills are outlined. The reader is introduced to several real-life rescued animals through colorful imagery inspired by personal photographs. Each Volume ends with one of King Zoom's favorite vegan recipes.
Each of the six volumes of King Zoom the Vegan Kid focuses on one area of animal exploitation:
- Volume 1: Animals used for food
- Volume 2: Animals used in entertainment
- Volume 3: Animals used in clothing
- Volume 4: Animals used in experiments
- Volume 5: Animals in wildlife
- Volume 6: Animals as companions.
Why a Book?
When King Zoom was first born I searched for books where he could identify with the characters. Leading characters that represented his brown skin and brown curly hair. These books were hard to find and definitely not in the mainstream.
We had purchased all the Vegan related books that were available, but missing was the "How-to" of being a Vegan in a non- Vegan world and concrete steps one can take for animal liberation.
King Zoom is turning the same age that I was when I made the connection between the animals I loved and those on my plate.
Even though Veganism is more acceptable today, I find that we are still confronted with the same questions and attitudes.
The health benefits of a"plant-based diet" is now trendy, but being a Vegan is much more than a diet.
Animals are still being exploited, abused and slaughtered by the billions each year and they need us to use the most important tool we have, our voice.
My first Book
King Zoom’s chance encounter with a starving seal pup prompted me to share the story and my dream of creating these books began.
In 2015 I wrote, illustrated and published my first book a true wildlife rescue story called, “King Zoom and the Great Seal Pup Rescue”.

As a homeschooling single mom finding time to focus on this next book has been so challenging and after three years the time has finally arrived! '
Super duper thanks to King Zoom for having the patience while I kicked it into high gear these past few months!
Special thanks to Carson Au who made the video, Happy Herd Sanctuary where the video took place. Nia Seney, Daphna Kedem and Maritza Oliver who helped guide me through the Kickstarter process.
And to you the backer, for contributing to the social justice movement of our time and making this dream come true.
Peace, Love, Vegan
Risks and challenges
The text for the book and all the illustrations have been completed and accepted by a reputable printer-publisher, Mascot Books.
The cost to print 1000 books= $4250.00 US (approximately $5555.00 CA)
Kickstarter takes 10% (service and credit card fees)
I am raising $7500.00 CA to cover the cost of the printing of the books, greeting cards, service and credit card fees and shipping costs.
The only risk or challenge may be the timing of deliveries. But I expect that backers will receive their rewards by June 2018.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
