ABOUT THE SHOW
"killer business-the musical" is a backstage murder mystery musical full of laughs, dance, romance and, of course, a murder! The world premiere will take place in January 2014 at the Next Stage Theatre Festival at the Factory Theatre, Mainspace (Bathurst and Adelaide) in Toronto, Ontario.
The Next Stage Theatre Festival is a juried Festival. We were 1 of 10 productions chosen from a pool of over 90 applications. It is an extraordinary opportunity to showcase our work. It is a profit sharing Festival...which means no one on the creative team (11 people) or in the cast (10 people) are getting paid during the four weeks of rehearsal and the 9 performances. We split the profits after the Festival ends.

It is the first preview of “Lucky In Love.” The Producer is hoping for a long run. The show starts with the same old song and dance until a body turns up on the stage. Now, it’s up to Richard Gunn, PI to solve the case. There’s a spoiled Diva, an aging star and a confused leading man. The backstage crew is overworked and the chorus is wooden. Everyone is a suspect. It is, after all, a Killer Business.

ABOUT OUR PRODUCTION COSTS
This is a new musical that has only ever had one informal reading. We would like to use the first few days of rehearsal for workshopping before we launch into full production rehearsals. This will give the writers some time to clarify the narrative.
We need funds for rehearsal space, costumes, sets, props, and marketing materials (posters and postcards).
Our goal is to raise as much as we can of our budget ahead of time to pay for the production costs so that all the money raised from the box office can go directly to the cast and creative team.
Please help us raise these upfront costs!
Risks and challenges
We are trying minimize the potential obstacles that may arise with our project, but no doubt, there will be some. Rehearsal spaces large enough to accommodate a show of this scale are costly and few and far between in Toronto.
We have an idea on how to shift quickly between the onstage and backstage scenes in our show. We have to work through these sequences with actors in the room to make sure they work. If this concept does not work, we will have to re-think the set and that will require more time in the rehearsal hall which will require more funds.
Though we have some experience in the process of developing new musicals, this undertaking is a daunting task. We feel confident in the team we have put together and will follow this through no matter the odds.
Every donation helps. With you, we can make "killer business-the musical" a success. Thank you!
