    4. Soren Jensen 7-time creator on October 10, 2012

@auro: They were sent around 10-14 September. A backer in Canada just received his so it may take a few days more. If something is wrong, we will for sure try again. Pls. let us know in a week or so!

Just got my 4 in the USA. They shipped great and look good. The cross holes on one side are pretty loose, but still usable. Thanks for getting this done.

@James: Thank a lot! Great to see the video (now included as #1 creation in our collection in Update 18).
@ Paul: Thanks for your feedback. Well, all Bases have been inspected at the factory but if you have received a non-perfect product we will for sure look into that... Steffen from the LDraw community actually already made a 3D file available in their forum:… . We hope that this is useful.

    12. Paul NeoStormer on September 20, 2012

Received my MinuteBot Base today, looking great, one of the corners looks a little stressed from the trip but it's still usable, I'll have a few pictures/videos of it attached to an NXT soon. Any chance of the SolidWorks file now?

    13. Soren Jensen 7-time creator on September 15, 2012

@Robijanto: That is not likely. It takes quite a few days to ship from Denmark to the US.

I am glad to hear the molds are going well and if you need summer weather, come to the US and take some. We have plenty of heat! :-)

    19. Soren Jensen 7-time creator on July 2, 2012

@Michael: You got a point! We will try to maintain a stable 'pulse' in the communication and if the project at a certain point requires 'open heart surgery' we will for sure let you know! So far the 'blood pressure' seems OK!

@Soren: I don't mean to be a pain, but it would be great to get an update every couple of weeks, even if its a 'Still alive' message with no real content. I am starting to see a big chunk of kickstarter projects I backed are going silent and eventually I have to write off the project.
      Anything is appreciated.

Hey guys, any update on status? Thanks, Mike

    22. Paul NeoStormer on May 25, 2012

After a bit of SolidWorks modeling and rendering I think a medium grey works best for most robots of course it does really come down what the actual plastic colors are.

    23. Marc-André Bazergui on May 21, 2012

cool i'm getting 2 Minutebot Base :D !! but i looked at the design and noticed the + added in a strange way, i.e. with 4 holes between them! that is not good for technic wich is odd.

      so instead of
      should it not be

Any of the grays are fine with me. I personally would prefer the 21x31 layout, but can live with the 21x 30. Thanks for all the hard work. Please continue to post updates on the manufacturing process.

Slightly off topic, but have you ever considered a planetary gear reduction as a possible project? We use large versions on the equipment I design and they can be quite useful in getting large torques applied to a wheel, or virtually anything else. Would love to have multiple for the LEGO projects.

I'm not sure how these '+' holes are useful on a plane (esp. If they make it harder to manufacture (?!?)). I think they make it harder to use pined L beams on the edges to join plates at right angles ('Technic Beam 3 x 3 Bent with Pins'). Before making changes I'd consider doing some diagrams where the modifications are shown to add value. It would also be interesting to see some common problems like joining plates in a plane, at right angles, or into a box and see what changes add the most value. I'm sure there are some smart backers who can help with examples. Any change at this point should be clearly justified. My 2 cents :)

    29. Alexander Thastum on May 19, 2012

One side odd and one even! I'm going to use the Bases with old Technic and normal Bricks ;)

    30. Laurens Valk on May 19, 2012

Glad to hear others have similar ideas. Look forward to these seeing the end result. And thanks for considering the input :)

I suppose the 4 beam holes did not make it to the final design?

    31. Paul NeoStormer on May 19, 2012

Add an extra line, that was always something I always wondered about, I just never thought it was up for debate, it would really help match with all the odd parts.

    32. Jetro de Château on May 19, 2012

odd+odd=even, ergo I don't really care much of you go 1+ or not.

Please add +1 vote on my behalf in favor of odd length.

    34. Daniele Benedettelli on May 19, 2012

I agree about odd length. All studless Technic parts are odd-long.

    35. Soren Jensen 7-time creator on May 19, 2012

@Laurens: To be honest, you have a point! As we are 106% funded, we could add 3% more holes... and get a perfectly symmetrical Base... We are tempted!

    36. Laurens Valk on May 19, 2012

Søren, why not? Every Technic unit system consists of odd numbers, so 21x31 would fit well there. With such nice plate, I don't see why we would want to add two 15L on top?

    37. Soren Jensen 7-time creator on May 19, 2012

@Laurens: We considered that but then 2 x 15 holes studless beams will not fit perfectly...

    38. Laurens Valk on May 19, 2012

Søren, or make it 31*2, Keep the current layout and add that extra line (with +oooo+ in the middle. It will be symmetric to all sides ;)

Either way, I like the design. Black is cool with me. Can't wait to use them.

    39. Soren Jensen 7-time creator on May 19, 2012

@pbenco: Would like to make more colors than one but due to cleaning of the tool, we need to run a certain number of MinuteBot Bases to make ends meet budgetwise...

@Scott: We are considering this too but some really do not like too many +-holes...

    40. Paul NeoStormer on May 18, 2012

i would sugest doing +ooo+ instead of +oooo+, thefore more + and an easier compatibilty with the odd hole beams

    41. pbenco on May 18, 2012

Like the Black, but why not introduce more Colors? fresh cut grass green, tiny chick yellow, deep sky blue, milky white, something not in the LEGO palette, unique as the MinuteBot Base. But, you're right, black is so conventional (that why it's always a not so bad choice!).
Like the Cross/hole configuration "+oooo+" with the + in the corners of 6*6 square.
Please just ask the fab, if it's possible to get more colors, if not, rock'n roll, Paint it Black!

You have a pattern of + holes on rows 1, 6, 11, 20, 25, and 30. What about adding two more rows at rows 15 and 16 to still give a symetric part and more of the + holes in the middle?

      Like the choice of black.

Vote for black as well. Do you have a supplier selected?

    44. Soren Jensen 7-time creator on May 18, 2012

@Glenn... Not sure... But we for sure feel like the driver of the leading car in Le Mans 24h (or Indy 500) with 10 minutes left... "a strange sound from the gear box?", "didn't the oil temperature indicator move upwards?" or "the left tire seems to go flat"...

      @Alexander: YES!!! $11,478!

@Jeff: You are all true MinuteBot heroes!

    45. Jeff Barr on May 18, 2012

Congratulations on reaching $11K! I'm looking forward to receiving my bases. Happy to see that doubling my pledge pushed the project just a bit closer to the goal.

      Changing minds...
Makes me curious: has any KS project hit their goal then lose enough pledges to end up unfunded at the end?

    47. Soren Jensen 7-time creator on May 18, 2012

Wow! Seem that we're getting there! But still 3 days left to change minds... Oh, why did they make the unpledge button! :-) ... In any case we will make an update soon where we can discuss and conclude on the design and color. Then you all know what you have signed up for before the final deadline! In any case: Thanks a lot for all your support! YOU made this happen! Now back to biting nails for a couple of days more!
