What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

About

The reason the project was undertaken was to fulfill a Life safety " gap"  that exists when commercial power is lost in emergencies and disasters. In most situations residential and commercial properties do not have reliable lighting available. When they do it is usually a small number of expensive portable generators. They have their own inherent risks with carbon monoxide as well as adequate ground issues.  In our research most power company providers can fix routine outages in 4.5 hrs and the bulb has a 5 hour duration.. We incorporated a recharge capability via a mini USB should an outage exceed the 5 + hrs. Every residence needs 4-6 of these Special LED bulbs installed in key locations throughout the respective Residential and Commercial Properties units to;  Get Ready, Be Ready, and Stay Ready, for these incidents and Stay Safe. The power savings will pay you back in just a few months.  

Risks and challenges

Version 3 Flexxelight has been in development since 2012. The first working unit was manufactured using a 3D printer 18 months ago. Since then 400 production units have been delivered and completed their ETL/UL/FCC/ CE and RoHS Certifications. They are beginning their Marketing phase. The bulbs have 7 modes of operation which includes 1 that detects a loss of commercial power and comes on and will stay on for 5 hrs. The bulb is capable of operating off any commercial power system world wide.
