Comicverse #3: A Date, Two Dragons, and Fred Hembeck is designed to raise funds to keep our new series, The Comicverse, a sci-fi rom-com about a comic book shop on the final frontier, running and moving forward.
The Comicverse #3 is an exciting step for us in our development of the series. The main story, "Earth", is our longest piece to date, and it features several firsts: the first date between main characters Rei and Aki, the first time Ying has ever met another dragon besides himself, shedding some light on the role of dragons in the Comicverse universe, the first view of the Comicverse space station's ecological ring, which has some interesting and humorous features, our first-ever wordless story in a short piece called "Air", which shows what happens when the air is sucked out of the Comicverse into space---a very dangerous situation!---and our first guest appearance by a known comics creator.
Since The Comicverse is a celebration of all things comic book-related, we'd like to get people in the comic book industry involved , people who celebrate comics the way we do. That's why we asked Fred Hembeck to do a commission page for us featuring the Comicverse characters.
We also wanted to use this opportunity support Fred by letting folks know that he still does commissions regularly, and has some very reasonably priced drawings of comic book characters for sale on eBay. His website is http://www.hembeck.com/
This Kickstarter campaign will cover the cost of paying for Fred's commission, as well as the printing of the new issue and a new 2-color version of our very popular Desire Is Overrated print, which is closely related to The Comicverse.
Any funds remaining will go towards the promotion of the book, convention expenses, and so forth. We're so grateful to all who supported The Comicverse in our first Kickstarter; we look forward to making new friends who will help us keep this series going and growing!
Risks and challenges
The Comicverse #3 is another step along the way to putting together a book collection of Comicverse stories that we would someday like to bring to a national, if not worldwide, audience. We would ultimately like to see this collection distributed in comic book shops and bookstores everywhere. At this point, we're building a grass roots movement and are trying to see if we can gather a following that's large enough that we can say to distributors, hey, look at all these people who are interested in our comic. At this point, our following is in the hundreds, but we are VERY excited by the response we've received so far!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
