About this project
Moneymalist's sleek design allows for a very discrete appearance. Wearing suits can be bothersome when most pockets are filled with everyday clutter – car keys, smartphone, business cards and a mostly very big wallet. Moneymalist was designed to fit in the inside pocket of your suit jacket and leave no bulge.
Thanks to its slim profile the moneymalist wallet can easily be stowed in the front pocket of your pants and jeans. Don't put your wallet on the table during a meeting or while having lunch – keep it in your pocket.
We understand that quality and durability are most important when making a product. Therefore the Moneymalist is made out of premium materials with a focus on high quality production.
We only use superb nappa leather for the Moneymalist. Soft to the touch and durable for everyday situations.
The wallet is manufactured by hand with the highest care for quality and perfection.
As a salesman working for a global IT software company I travel a lot to customers and clients. Being on the road that much you start to appreciate everything that simplifies your daily routine. I managed to do that pretty good - expect when it came to my wallet. It was the usual struggle... too big, did not fit well in suits, uncomfortable when carrying it in the back pocket and sitting down - the list goes on...
So I decided to go for a minimalist wallet but after trying a few I still was not satisfied. Either the design was not business-like or the overall experience was not as premium as I wanted it to be. But most of all I could not figure out what to do with my coins.
After all, in Germany and Europe you still encounter situations on a day to day basis where you just need coins.
So I decided to make my own wallet, specifically designed for the use in a business environment - slim, functional and premium.
It started with my grandpa's 50 year old sewing machine and teaching myself how to sew.
The first prototype was a big milestone for me, since it proved feasible and the feedback from friends and colleagues helped me to understand where and how to improve it.
Now, after 18 months of prototyping and testing the end result is the Moneymalist.
The creational process of the Moneymalist has a lot action items on its to-do list. Fortunately, a lot of them have already been successfully taken care of.
Prototyping is done. The Moneymalist is in its final and perfect form.
Testing is done. Feedback has been gathered and put into practice.
Tooling is done. Everything that is needed in order to manufacture the Moneymalist has been set up.
Manufacturer is ready and on stand-by. My manufacturer has been involved in the entire process and has years of experience in the leather industry. A trusted partner.
What is left to do?
Financing the first production run. In order to sell the Moneymalist at a competitive price point we need to lower manufacturing cost. Therefore we need a certain amount of orders. This is where you come into play.
Packaging and shipping. The first production run will be packaged and shipped in a startup-style manner - by me. The packaging is also of high quality and complements everything the Moneymalist stands for.
Later on, when the production numbers are high enough we plan to also outsource this part of the production process.
Risks and challenges
I have been able to mitigate the risk associated with this project by financing the prototyping phase myself. I have even visited my manufacturer on-site and discussed every step of the this project and made sure that manufacturing will run smoothly.
As with every project there are risks involved but for the Moneymalist I see the main aspect in time. I have double-checked every detail in order to ship the products on time but there is always a small risk of a delay.
I have done my homework and with the manufacturer being aligned in the process, I feel confident to make this project a complete success!
