Hi. I'm Paul, and I'm here looking to Kickstart my first novel project. The novel is being written in a serial fashion, with Part 1 being almost complete. I have the 1st draft finished, and have re-written a number of the scenes as I complete the final draft. Part 1 will be going to my editor, David on September 15th. With any luck, David's comments will be minor, and I will have everything ready to go by October 1st.
A little bit about myself.
I have been dreaming of being a fiction writer since 1998 or so. That is when I decided to write a short story about a curious toddler getting into some hazardous mischief. I was inspired to write that 1,600 word piece about a year after my daughter was born. Since writing that story, I have started many many other works, but have yet to follow any of them through to publication. Part of my reluctance to publish is self doubt. Having a background in architecture, my inner editor is dismissing my own worthiness in writing. That all changed at the end of last year, when my mother-in-law urged me to follow my dreams and register for some kind of writing class or group. I chose an online class, with an enormous support forum, and that was all it took. Her encouragement, the online support helped push my through the self doubt.
A little bit about the story.
Linear Shift is about a man named Peter Cooper. He is a widowed father of 2 teen children, and is really down on his luck. He is approached by a military general to go on a top secret time traveling mission, to change a moment in time. The story has a bit of action, some adventure - a little bit of romance and certainly some suspense. Not overly Sci-Fi in nature, but having time travel as part of the stories focus, Sci-Fi is part of the genre. Here is the blurb from the back cover:
No one said time travel would be easy.
Peter Cooper, a widowed father of two whose life is crumbling around him—until a bizarre encounter with a desperate Army general launches him on a risky mission: to go back to 1942 and change a moment in time. The repercussions will almost certainly alter the conclusion of World War II. But will the ripple effects stop there? And what kind of life will Peter return to?
A successful mission may not have the success he had intended.
About The Author
When not practicing architecture, Paul works on his writing. He lives in Littleton, Colorado with his wife and daughter. Linear Shift is his first novel.
Part 1 of the story, as I mentioned earlier, is about complete. I am looking to publish on or around October 1st. For this part of the novel, I have already hired a cover designer, and have final book covers for both ebook and print publications. I have already hired an editor, but his work has yet to begin. What I have left to do before publication is secure ISBN's and follow through with editing. Up to this point, I have been paying out of pocket, and with ISBN's being so darned expensive, I figured I'd try Kickstarter. I am looking for $600 to complete Part 1 and publish.
The $600 would go to paying for a large enough lot of ISBN's to complete the entire series, as well as pay for editing. As I mentioned before, I have already paid for the art work for the book cover, and actually have the covers for the remaining 3 parts as well. It's just this last mile of work that needs funding.
I will be posting stretch goals along the way, as they become necessary, and they will mostly deal with editing of the remaining 3 parts of the novel. I plan on writing and publishing each additional part of the novel every 2 to 3 months after Part 1 is published.
Risks and challenges
As for risks and challenges, I have overcome most of them to this point. The only risks I could see right now is that the editing comes back extremely hacked to pieces. I have been in contact with David for a few weeks now, and he has seen parts of the final draft. He is excited and anticipating an easy edit on his part. However, if it is harsh, I will tackle the editing with vigor, and push through to finish the revisions by mid October, at the latest. I've come too far to stop now! This story is going to be wonderful.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
