The Remidi T8 is composed of a sensor-loaded glove and a MIDI wrist controller that allows you to use your hand as a musical device by combining sounds with your fingertips, palm and hand motions.
The T8 has eight sensors embedded into the glove, three in the palm and one in each fingertip, which give you the ultimate range of motion and customized settings.

The lightest instrument you’ve ever felt, the T8’s glove component is made of ultra-light Spandex to give your fingers the maximum range of mobility. Weighing roughly 1.4 lbs. with a surface area under 8 x 10 inches, the T8 is built to easily fit small, medium, and large-sized hands (more on this in Tech Specs below). The elastic material will conform perfectly to your hand and playing style – what other instrument does that?
The T8’s ‘skeleton’ sensors are made of human-friendly PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), along with proprietary smart textile components, so no other ‘musical glove’ can come close to the T8’s electronic sensitivity and physical durability. The T8 knows exactly when – and at what pressure – you’re pressing the palm of your hand against a surface as well as how soft or hard you’re pressing two or more sensors together.
You can personalize every feature through the dedicated interface via our desktop and mobile apps. You can also arrange your note-sets, personalize your movements through Air Modulation, enable/disable sensors, and set pressure sensitivity.
At its core, the T8 is a MIDI controller - much like a synthesizer, drumpad, or other digital musical instrument. Using this universal, digital, musical language we are able to seamlessly integrate the T8 and its corresponding app to the most popular platforms available.
One of the best parts about the launch of the T8 is the ability to pull it out of the box and play it instantly – even if you do not have GarageBand, ProTools, or other music-making software. Our app will come fully loaded with preset Remix & Sound Packs so you can sync your T8 right out of the box. We plan to give every T8 backer access to at least 10 free remix packs upon delivery! Want to play a C-Major scale on a jazz guitar? How about emulating Jon Bono’s drum-sounds? With our starting set of packs you’ll be recording, remixing and playing in no time. With the addition of community-created, open-source developments, we can’t wait to see what the T8 community will come up with first.
As with any digital product, customer support, evolving product features, and fixing potential issues are always key. We’ll provide a constant, high-level of product development and T8 support so that it will work with every software imaginable and never be buggy. From Day 1 of shipping, we’ll have a full suite of patches available to download so you can easily sync and integrate the T8 with any and all mainstream programs. The road to T8 wasn’t without it’s challenges. We first tackled wearablilty, which we solved thanks to research and advances in the medical sector and the world of smart-textiles, where wearable technology is fast becoming part of true fashion products.
Then came the pressure sensors: the index, middle finger, ring finger and pinkie were easy decisions. The thumb, on the other hand, was tougher. After several rounds of testing we decided on a lower-left portion of the thumb for its corresponding sensor, as this is how most people naturally tap their thumb to a rhythm.
The palm was the biggest challenge. We wanted wearers of the T8 to be able to manipulate it the same way we do when we drum on our legs, chests, or congas. For this reason, we identified 3 spots: Lower palm, upper palm and side palm. Lower palm is very easy and natural, while the other 2 are more pro-oriented and are meant to allow crazy combinations with the other sensors.
Next, the design. We wanted to create a product with three qualities: useful, ergonomic and beautiful. In this phase we decided to separate the wristband from the glove: this way it’s lighter, more mechanically durable, and the glove doesn't have any "cyborgish" technology on the back of the hand, making the goal of beauty harder to achieve.
Once we had our first prototypes working we tested it on our friends and collaborators in the music industry. We saw first-hand how fast they gained confidence with the prototype and for the first time the potential of our dream became real to us. Not only did it become a great new way to create and perform music, but it could be the easiest way to approach music since we first started playing percussive sounds.
Finally, we focused on integration and user experience. We imagined our users and their relationship with the T8 and wanted to create something people would instantly fall in love with, the same way we did when we tried the first prototype. We set out to create the most intuitive app for smartphones and tablets. All along we worked on the integration with music software as a top priority. Thanks to our background in music production and DJing, we knew what was needed for easy integration and personalization possibilities.
Over the months of work we began to realize the potential of our idea, and we saw how many people all over the world were asking where they could buy it online. We decided the time had come to bring T8 to the market and that’s why we’re launching our Kickstarter campaign right now!
Risks and challenges
- The integration between sensors and fabric: despite the fact that we have been focused on this core aspect for all the time, it’s a very new domain in the industry and may hide some unexpected risk. Fortunately, we already created the solution both in terms of material properties and crafting; regardless, we still have not launched full-scale production so we have to consider this as a challenge in the road that lies ahead.
- We identified our material providers and partnerships based on our research within three parameters: wearability, sensitiveness and durability. A key point for our success is that all three of these sourced materials must work in long-term applications. We have received guarantees from providers but we are still running tests to guarantee high quality standards.
- The integration with software and our application: given the amount of work that we’ll have over the next year, there’s the possibility that we won’t be able to create enough patches to integrate the T8 in multiple ways with all the software and apps in the market.
