About this project

Your contribution will go toward supporting our artist Jun Tohyama and our programmer Naoki Iwakawa - both of whom have experience in the game industry. It costs them each roughly $1,500 a month to live, and we're an estimated 3 months from a beta release. Because of this $15,000 will give Tohyama and Iwakawa close to 5 months of time toward a release or at least something we can start charging for.
Scroll Ninja is a side-scrolling multi-player action game. Players face off against each-other as individuals or in teams. Game modes will include standard Death Match and Capture the Flag as well as a variety of unique modes such as "Tonosama" mode where one super powered player [per team in team mode] needs to avoid assassination, a scroll collecting mode where scrolls may help or hinder players, a progressive upgrade/leveling mode, etc.
Players choose a school of Ninjitsu at the beginning of a match as well as sub-weapons, items, and abilities*. Schools of Ninjitsu are based on elements such as Fire, Water, Wood, Earth, Metal etc. Water Ninjitsu for example allows players to run across water and to fire projectiles from under water, Fire features fierce attacks and Fire Ninja leave a trail of flame when they run, Tree Ninja can freely scale and stick to trees and will blend in with foliage, Earth Ninja are very strong when on the ground and can dig themselves into the ground for camouflage, Metal Ninja make up for what they lack in mobility with strong defenses and powerful blast weapons. Selectable sub-weapons will include things like smoke bombs, poison darts, "makibishi" land spikes, a variety of chain weapons and more.

All Ninja have a "kaginawa" grappling line that can be used to ascend to higher ground:
Kaginawa can also be used to increase range and speed of movement:
Furthermore Kaginawa can be used as a weapon to pull your opponents in for attacks.
When running, the Ninja also stick to the terrain they are running over, meaning a running Ninja will stick to slopes, run over rough terrain, and run up walls:
One of our first post-release additions to the game will be mystical powers, including selectable spirit animals which can be summoned to power up the player for a short period of time. For example the Bear will greatly boost attack and defense, the hawk will allow for free flight and a special swooping attack, and the tiger grants a devastating dash attack and a massive running speed boost.
There will be large sprawling levels with interactive elements all done in hand-drawn art by Jun Tohyama. The general art style for the game is inspired by classical Japanese paintings like those found on art scrolls. Both the keyboard and mouse will be used for control, but alternative and customizable control schemes and the ability to use a game-pad will be available.
You contribution will allow us to continue development. As a company we've had a very rough start and Scroll Ninja is probably our last chance at recovery and staying in business. We chose to focus all our remaining resources on it because it's a project we all really feel everyone will enjoy; we hope you feel the same and we will be very grateful for any support we receive.
