For Kim Keever, art is an expression of joy.

His bold and unique style has placed him at the avant-garde of American expressionism, with pieces currently in collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn; and the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC.

Kim didn’t begin his professional life with the goal of becoming a prominent contemporary artist. After receiving his degree, he began his career working as a thermal engineer and contributed to several projects for NASA.

But Kim quickly realized that his true calling was art. Today, by dropping pigment into a 200-gallon tank of water and photographing what he sees in a carefully positioned mirror, Kim produces mesmerizing images that blend vivid realism with complete abstraction.

Now, we are publishing the first monograph of Kim’s newer work, titled Water Colors. And giving copies to public high school students.

The first edition monograph

Through this Kickstarter campaign, you will be the the first to pick two versions of the monograph: a luxurious, hardcover limited-edition, which is presented in a handmade clamshell box with a signed print by the artist, or a soft-cover edition of the same book.

Both have been designed to provide you with a complete portrait of the colors and shapes that have earned Kim so much respect.

500 art books

We are partnering with Project Success––a non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating students’ creative passions into careers––through which Kim aims to donate 500 of his books to young people across America. Kim is also donating prints to make it possible for students to receive the book.

The goal, like his work, is simple and profound: to enable the minds of the future through access to contemporary art.

Risks and challenges

The team has produced books for many of the major museums in the U.S. including MoMA and the Smithsonian. We are printing the book in Italy at one of the best presses in the world. Of course, the printer might have scheduling issues unrelated to this book that could delay the publication slightly. If that happens, we will be transparent about any changes.
