Three princesses, Celyse, Linne, and Hana, are each happily in love, until their betrotheds are taken from them by three evil queens. Now, they must go on a quest to defeat the queens and rescue their true loves.
Princess Retribution stands apart from other classic fantasy adventures for one main reason: Instead of helpless princesses in need of rescue, these princesses are doing the rescuing! While it is a short story about princesses, it is not really for children, since there is some fighting, blood, death and gray morality. It is posted online in its entirety so you are free to check it out and judge for yourself! (The bonus story will be a little more mature, and you can read the plot summary in the updates/news section below.)
Meet the Characters!
Princess Celyse is the princess to a small kingdom and is a very skilled mage. She and Eten have been betrothed since they were young and are inseparable. Celyse cares deeply about her friends and her loved ones, which causes her to become extremely vengeful against anyone who would hurt them.
Princess Linne is a composed and elegant woman, a master swordswoman, and was never much into romantic relationships. All that changed when she fell for Sasha, to whom she is now betrothed. She is a fair woman, not usually prone to violence, but will do what is needed to protect her loved ones from danger.
Princess Hana is generally a bubbly woman, loves sweets (particularly cake), and loves to fight. She enters tournaments in her kingdom, in disguise, and usually reigns supreme with her nearly inhuman strength and fighting skills. Her first love, however, is Varik, her betrothed. Even against impossible odds, she would go to the end of the earth to keep him safe.
Prince Eten is betrothed to Celyse and is a sweet, kind man who, according to Celyse, is great at giving birthday presents and at throwing parties and giving gifts. He is super supportive of Celyse's magical studies, even going so far as to get her a new and more powerful focus tome for her birthday.
Princess Sasha was at first, too shy even to speak to Linne, only able to present her with flowers and other such tokens of love. Her relationship with Linne has given her the strength to not only be more open and comfortable in a relationship, but more assertive in everyday life.
Varik and Hana were the unlikeliest of couples to begin with, but after some time together, it became clear their differences were what made them a truly strong couple. He is a calm man with quite a skill for baking pastries, and there is nothing he likes more than watching his betrothed win a fight.
Dark Mage Queen Rosanne may have a long title, but she has definitely earned her reputation as a Dark Mage. Using her ice magic to cause destruction and pain wherever she goes, it's no wonder that Celyse has heard of her. Like the other Queens, Rosanne believes that her power allows to to take whatever she wishes, whether it be riches, or a person.
Queen Mirim is a master swordswoman in her own right, as well as dabbling in other weaponry like bolas, but she is more for shows of power and strength over those of finesse and deft skill. Not much is known about her origins, but she has a reputation for being incredibly arrogant and unrelenting.
Even less is known about Queen Omra, but it appears that she has the same inhuman strength that Hana possesses, if not more. While Hana is big on punching, Omra's weapon of choice are her powerful legs. She does share the same love of fighting that Hana does, but for entirely different reasons.
This book will contain all 5 chapters of the webcomic (110 pages) plus a 20 page bonus comic, for a total of 130 pages. Chapters 1-5 will have updated art, so the book will be a cleaner, sharper and overall more polished version than the pages online. These updated pages, as well as the bonus comic, will never be posted online, so here's your chance to get your hands on them!
Some of the pages from the story! Remember, while the story is complete, the art will be spruced up for the book form ^_^
And the preview for the bonus book-only story!
Elaine Tipping is located in Nishio, Japan, with her husband and two cats. In addition to Princess Retribution, she also draws a Peter Pan adaptation. On top of that she and writer Ben Hsu, the members of Tiny Blue Dragon Studio, make Licensed Heroes and the recently ended Dubious Company. She draws full time and teaches English part time. In her spare time (of which there is little) she reads manga, plays video games, and does whatever new hobby she’s discovered. (no, seriously, she needs to stop getting new hobbies). She's run two successful kickstarters to publish Tales of a Gaijin and Peter Pan Volume 1.

And I've gotten the inked version of the kickstarter special art finished! Remember this is the digital art everyone $10 and up will get (some upper levels get a physical copy), but of course it will be colored ^_^ We have everyone on a picnic, this takes place after the current comic, but before the bonus story ^_^ Linne and Eten are having a fun chat, Sasha and Varik are talking recipes, and Celyse and Hana have snuck off two cakes and are eating the whole things ^_-
And the colored version here!
And more to come!
Risks and challenges
I've completed two successful Kickstarters, as well as contributing to four Tiny Blue Dragon Studio Kickstarters, so I've hit the hurdles before, and I've overcome them, so I am a bit of a veteran at all this.
Keep in mind, I am one person so I make, package, and ship all the rewards myself. That, plus the fact that I will be drawing a bonus comic to go in the book (20-30 pages, pending stretch goals) and will be updating all the pages, I've given the estimated delivery date to make sure I have enough time to do everything and not disappoint by being late. It should cover anything life throws at me, but if all goes smoothly, I should be able to get everything out early!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
