Cross Pokémon with The Avengers.
That's The Elemals™.
It's a Sci-Fi Action-Dramedy. Basically it's a love letter to the cartoons and video games I grew up with. It'll have action, adventure, romance, and a whole load of subtle self-aware nods to other works.
The story takes place in the not too distant future and follows an unlucky British cartoonist - Josh - who, when London floods to biblical proportions, decides to start a new a life for himself in another country, only for a mad scientist named Bob (there's always a mad scientist named Bob in these things) to steal his ideas and create super powered cyber-organisms to sell on as weapons of war.
While my style is light hearted and colourful, the story and themes will hopefully appeal to a broad amount of comic fans, whether it's Adventure Time or X-Men.
Okay... What do you want?
What's in it for me?!
So glad you asked! Check out the rewards on the right, broken down in this handy chart with icons and big green tick symbols:
In addition I'd like to include sketches, character bios and additional art that'll really help to give you, the reader, the opportunity to see how I work, and see what goes into creating something like The Elemals™.
This Kickstarter intends to cover printing costs for a book of that size, plus ISBNs and costs for promotion, marketing, website materials and to really go ahead and make this a full time thing. I'm very sure this is a great idea, what little I've shown so far has been met with amazing interest from industry peers and I can't wait to show what's next.
I HEAR YOU! So glad you asked. I've got some great rewards for you guys, including the opportunity to be IN the comic, geeky tees, signed books, and commissions!
I'd like to offer the opportunity in this kickstarter to reprint the designs I've made already for people who may have missed out, as well as introduce some brand new designs which you'll be able to get FIRST through this Kickstarter.
There's something for the geek in all of us, whether you like comics, movies or games! I'm also strictly offering commissions through this Kickstarter, so if you've ever been in the market to get something drawn by me, now's the time. I'm also offering the chance for 7 lucky people to immortalise themselves within the pages of The Elemals™!
Here are the tshirt designs! 23 of which are brand new for this Kickstarter.
Remember these are all designed by me, right now this is the only place in the world to get them!
5 more designs will be unlocked once we hit 75 backers!
I print using Gildan, and have attached a sizing guide below.
Guys and Ladies Fit! You'll pick your size and design once the Kickstarter ends successfully.
A number of the higher reward tiers offer a limited amount commissions.
I will be offering digitally drawn as well as hand-drawn digital commissions, depending on what you pledge to the project. This Kickstarter is the ONLY way to secure a commission from me this year! I will not be offering them at conventions, or via email, until everyone who backed this Kickstarter has received theirs. So if you want a commission from me, this here Kickstarter's how to do it - back early!
I'm Josh Clarke! http://fb.com/JoshClarkeDraws
My style has many influences both Eastern and Western; I've been described by a passer-by at a comic convention as "Manga meets The Beano". I'll take that!
In the last two years I've been making a name for myself on the UK comic convention scene; most recently in the UK, you'd have seen me at May 2013's MCM Expo London Comic Con, July 2013's London Film and Comic Con, and July's Manchester Comic Con, with Vol 1-2 of my comic The Elemals™, plus a few of the geeky tee designs you see above!
I want this to be all I do, with the aid of Kickstarter, this dream can become real!
Risks and challenges
I've teamed up with UKComics to get my books printed in the past - they are on board to get The Elemals™ [Birth] collection printed and ready for all my Kickstarter backers! They will be counting on me to work to deadline so that I can get the finished items out to you in the stipulated time, but there is always some risk with a one-man undertaking that they might be late!
I aim to have this project ready to print in September but I do have commitments to fulfil such as a "regular job" which may set me back - with the support this Kickstarter hopefully generates I should be able to put a lot more focus into my comic in the future.
I have already come so far off my own back and need this little extra push from all my backers and supporters to really indicate that I am taking the right path.
With that said, please back generously!!
