Carapace wetsuits are handcrafted, custom-fit wetsuits made from the finest materials. Each of our wetsuits is built one by one, just for you.
Frustrated with being unable to find wetsuits that fit well, we searched surf shops as well as the internet looking for an affordable, well-fitting wetsuit made from premium neoprene and found that what we were looking for didn’t exist. So we set out on a two-year journey to solve this problem and ultimately developed an efficient way to produce custom-fit wetsuits. It’s been a long road, but we can finally see the finish line.
Why you need custom:
A custom suit will not only be more durable, but it will also allow you to surf longer, paddle faster, and stay warmer.
- A proper fitting wetsuit is more comfortable and reduces stress along the seams, preventing wear and tear.
- With a wetsuit that is too tight, areas of 3 millimeter neoprene can function like 2 millimeter neoprene, if stretched far enough. Neoprene loses its ability to retain heat the thinner it is.
- A loose fitting wetsuit can allow cold water to enter, causing the suit to feel significantly heavier.
- Wetsuits that are too tight will constrict your range of motion, making paddling difficult and inefficient.
How we do it:
We developed a way to create custom wetsuits at a reasonable price; we are bringing custom-fit, which is already prevalent in other markets, to the wetsuit industry. Adopting technology from those markets and applying it to ours, we developed an affordable, custom-fit surfing wetsuit.
Using our online-video guided measuring portal, we use 15 different measurements that you submit. Our computer-aided design (CAD) software then uses those measurements to create digital patterns that are specific to your body. From there, we cut the neoprene panels for your suit. Last, we blindstitch, glue, and tape every seam to create a wetsuit unique to you.
All of our suits are blindstitched and glued at every seam. This is still the best way to construct a durable wetsuit. We have minimized the number of seams by using larger panels to maximize the stretch. We also spend hours reinforcing the seams with a special tape that is thinner and stretchier than others.
Our intuitive web portal makes it simple for you to submit measurements. With step-by-step measuring instructions, we help you minimize measuring errors. After measurements are submitted, our algorithms then process your measurements to create patterns unique to your body. This saves us hours of labor, eliminates human error, and enables us to deliver a wetsuit at an affordable price.
All of our wetsuits are made from high grade, closed-cell neoprene. This means it is water impermeable so that it stays light and stretchy. Our premium EXO1 line features a limestone based, Yamamoto neoprene.
- Pre-bent knees for a natural and anatomical fit
- Form retaining wrist seal to minimize water flushing into the suit
- External key pocket conveniently located on the side of the knee for easy access
- Magnetic zipper stop, for convenience and durability
The EXO2 3/2 (3mm thickness in the core and 2mm in the extremities) suit features a polypropylene-based neoprene in the core, which has greater water-repelling properties that allows you to stay light and warm. We also use a silky, nylon-based neoprene that is comfortable against the skin. Our EXO2 model wetsuit is also available in 4/3mm thickness.
The EXO1 3/2 suit features Yamamoto limestone based neoprene, which is composed of a unique blend of nylon and polyurethane. This jersey (see image below) is the silkiest, lightest, fastest drying material available. In addition, the titanium-based coating between the jersey and the neoprene increases heat retention without adding any extra weight. Our EXO1 model wetsuit is also available in 4/3mm thickness.
Note: Currently we only offer men's wetsuits, but if you are interested in wetsuits for women or juniors, please contact us.

Risks and challenges
We've done our research with other Kickstarter projects and have even backed a few of our own. So we know how frustrating it is to wait months, sometimes years, for a cool product to finally be delivered. Therefore, we have everything lined up and ready to go and have great relationships with our material/manufacturing vendors.
It takes time to produce our materials overseas and we have accounted for that in our manufacturing process. We promise to keep you updated on the progress of our production.
We've tested our algorithms over and over. However, errors can still happen along the way. We are more than willing to work with you to make sure you are happy with your product. It goes without saying that if we've made a manufacturing or fitting error, we will remake the suit at no cost to you.
