Madam Opus: Funny Songs by Funny Women
A new compilation CD of comedy-music by female artists.
Madam Opus: Funny Songs by Funny Women is a new compilation CD made up of mostly new and unreleased songs by over a dozen talented female artists who perform in a variety of styles. The artists involved in this album include Katie Goodman (Broad Comedy), The Doubleclicks (Nerdist, JoCo Cruise), Jessica Delfino (New York Funny Songs Fest), Becca Brown (School of Rock), and many more.
The idea for this album sprung up last year at FuMPFest, an annual music festival of comedy music. Someone had taken the merchandise from all the female artists and put it all together with a sign that said “Comedy music needs more female musicians.”
Afterwards, at the end of the convention, the female artists who were still around posed together for a picture with the sign.
This lead to a discussion about women in comedy, and specifically women in comedy-music, and someone pointed out that there has not yet been a compilation album of funny songs by female artists. The FuMP—that’s The Funny Music Project, which produced FuMPFest and has released over 1250 comedy songs online along with several dozen compilation albums over the past ten years—took the reins to make this project happen.
Below is the full line-up of artists who have agreed to submit songs to the compilation.
Becca Brown - As a child Becca starred as “Katie” in the Jack Black film “School of Rock.” She has done improv, sketch, and stand-up comedy in addition to music.
Carrie Dahlby - Carrie is a nerdy comedy-musician from Chicago best known for her songs about pregnancy and motherhood.
Jessica Delfino - Jessica is a singer and comedian from New York City who founded and ran the New York Funny Songs Fest for five years.

Katie Goodman - Katie is a musical satirist and comedian from New York City. She is the creator, writer, and director of Broad Comedy, a five-woman musical satire show.
Beth Kinderman - Beth is a singer/songwriter from Minneapolis who performs at a science fiction and fan conventions throughout the midwest.
Lauren Mayer - Lauren is a singer/songwriter specializing in comedy and satire. She writes topical comedy songs about suburban life, her crush on Steph Curry, and politics (so much material, so little time).
Maria T Comedy - Maria moved to Nashville to be a songwriter and rather than follow the traditional course she began writing songs about all the weird things happening to her.
Reformed Whores - Katy Frame and Marie Cecile Anderson are the Reformed Whores, a duo from New York City with a Southern sound and a sharp edge who have opened for “Weird Al” Yankovic and Les Claypool.

Lindsay Smith - Lindsay is an artist and voice actor from California who published the webcomic Daisy Is Dead for more than 10 years. She is often known as Linzilla.
Carla Ulbrich - Carla is a singer, guitarist, and self-proclaimed “professional smart aleck.” She has released several albums of funny songs including one that focussed on her recovery from a severe illness.
The album cover was illustrated by Lindsay Smith who also contributed a song to the compilation. Lindsay is an animator and voice actor who has worked for the past few years as Lead Character Designer on Cartoon Network’s show Mighty Magiswords.
Madam Opus: Funny Songs by Funny Women will be available on CD or as a digital download in the summer of 2018. You can help support women, support comedy, and support women in comedy by picking up a copy of this album, pledging for one of our great rewards, or just spreading the word about the campaign!
Women of The FuMP
The FuMP has produced a new compilation album every other month since 2007 and periodically releases specialty compilations such as Christmas with The FuMP or Halloween with The FuMP. So when this idea first came up it was suggested that a new compilation called Women of The FuMP be produced using existing songs that were released on TheFuMP.com. But after discussing it the decision was made to expand this album beyond only artists associated with The FuMP and try to solicit some new material.
Instead, we are producing the Madam Opus compilation and have decided to produce Women of The FuMP as an additional digital compilation exclusively for our Kickstarter backers who pledge at the $35 level or above.
Carla's Garbage Bin
Carla Ulbrich made this special one-of-a-kind waste paper basket from rolled up MAD Magazine covers and has offered to donate it to this Kickstarter campaign. There is only one and the person who pledges $500 will become its proud new owner!
Risks and challenges
The FuMP has produced over 70 compilation CDs over the past 10 years, so this is nothing new to us. Many of the songs promised by the artists have already been delivered. However, it's possible that an artist won't come through with a promised song and we will need to find other arrangements.
We currently expect to be able to produce and ship the CDs for this project within the requested budget. However, if we have greatly over- or underestimated the demand those numbers will need to change.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
