SA.AL&CO is a brand new men’s skincare company from Vienna, Austria, and producing in the Austrian Alps. It is next generation skincare for men because we conceived and designed natural skincare with a masculine aesthetic as well as men's needs in mind. We do this with a simple but uncompromising approach in creating premium skincare for the conscious man.

The skincare line consists of the 5 essentials for men: 011 Hair & Body Wash, 021 Shaving Crème, 031 After Shave Balm, 041 Dry Skin Moisturizer, and 051 Deodorant. The products are vegan, made from premier natural ingredients as well as crisp, alpine spring water from the Austrian Alps. The combination of the ingredients and a consistent use of essential oils create a similar scent across all products that is subtle, elegant, and fresh. The products are potent, but not aggressive, and based on sophisticated formulas. We never tested them on animals, only on ourselves, and... friends and family.

We choose brushed aluminum for the packaging that sets a masculine aesthetic statement. It is a joy to see, feels great in your hands, and is rugged, sturdy, and functional with caps and dispensers made from hard, ribbed plastic that makes the products easy to open and close. They are a 100ml in size, so that you can take them with you on the plane, wherever you go. The tubes and bottles are also individualized and personalized with relevant handwritten inscriptions, such as your name, making them not only unique, but truly yours.

We manufacture our products in small batch sizes to achieve fresh, high quality products. Focusing on providing great value, following the Kickstarter campaign the products will almost exclusively be offered through our own website, discarding middlemen and markups. The combination of small batch manufacturing and delivery through our own website reduces the time from production to delivery to a minimum, avoiding loss in efficacy.

SA.AL&CO doesn’t sound like a regular skincare brand, because it isn’t. Created with maximum enjoyment, an exceptional passion for detail and a focus on developing great natural skincare, its men’s skincare… you would create.

We want to be forward about why we need you early on. We also think that doing so will benefit your insight into SA.AL&CO and guide you through the detailed presentation to follow, with a clearer sense of understanding.

We are on Kickstarter, because this is as far as we could take SA.AL&CO. We have designed and developed the products. From here on, as we share our excitement to seek a community of like-minded and enthused friends, we need your support.

SA.AL&CO embodies a manly vision of how truly great men’s skincare should be – the product, its packaging, its delivery; every aspect is conceived in the very spirit of always having our guiding principle in mind: keeping things simple but always uncompromising.

Simple describes our commitment to keeping things straightforward, evoking a sense of effortless, natural consequence to what we aim to achieve. Simple is also the idea behind the natural content of the products, the brushed aluminum packaging, the refined and personalized label design, the aesthetics behind the imagery that can be found on our website, on social media and any other aspect of communication. 

Uncompromising meanwhile reflects the crucial addendum to the idea of just keeping things simple. It guides us through challenging decisions, choices between too many options and bags of little details, in concert elevating the result to a superior approach of a man’s daily routine.

The name SA.AL&CO is a combination of three elements. When contemplating over a name for a brand one considers everything through and through. A million times. SA.AL&CO was chosen out of a kaleidoscope of ideas to convey a profound message. So what does it mean?

SA.AL is the combination of the first two letters of each of the founders’ surnames, separated and at once mirrored by the dot in the middle. It symbolizes our commitment to the brand and the responsibility of acting with integrity by putting our own names on it.

&CO is an important addition that reflects the generally oftentimes-underappreciated circumstance that this brand reflects the work of not only its founders, but also those involved through thoughts, advice, and hard work, by employees, advisors, friends and family. It emphasizes that SA.AL&CO is both born and alive in its intended form thanks to the devoted involvement of so many, truly great personalities in a unique, true collaboration of peers. We also understand the addendum to include our community of loyal friends and followers as we intend to blur the traditional line of customers and company. More on this to follow.

Design is at the forefront of SA.AL&CO and considered as one of its most important brand attributes. If you don’t like the design, you will hardly learn to love the product. Therefore, we wanted SA.AL&CO’s design to be testament to our simple but uncompromising approach. It translates into the uniform packaging material and layout, the label design, and our choice of a single typeface. With a unique design and dedication to detail, we seek to evoke a sense of rugged and effortless masculine elegance, reflecting our understanding of aesthetics.

Following our “simple” approach, our design manifests itself in the uniformity of choices ranging from the packaging material and design to the label design and the choice of a single typeface. It creates a harmony desirable to a conscious man launching into days full of choices, offering a simple one that does not distract by trivia and instead finds confidence, every day anew, in a decision well made.  

In this spirit of the brand’s character, we aimed for simple, rugged surfaces, materials and looks, which achieve an impression of nonchalant, effortless masculine elegance. These profound choices in the design combined with a functional simplicity are unfailingly experienced with the usage of the products. It reflects a dedication to detail and understanding that the total of the particulars are what make a product truly great. Something hardly ever seen in today’s men skincare offering anymore.

SA.AL&CO is the result of an elaboration about how truly great men’s skincare really should be. We therefore decided to come back to the basics, choosing great ingredients, a foundation for any great product. Further, focusing on great effects, a great scent, and a great selection and offering, we created something unique for everyone and every day. Thus establishing a significant contribution to a men’s daily routine.

We therefore choose an uncompromising selection of only premium, natural ingredients whose integrity and affects are indisputable. The resultant products are potent, but not aggressive, remedying in a soothing, gentle way and creating a smooth sensory effect. The use of sophisticated formulas and a small batch production process further guarantees a degree of quality and freshness, as the products arrive to you. The scent is a natural consequence of the ingredients and the use of a consistent selection of essential oils across all products, creating a subtle, elegant and fresh natural scent that evokes a sense of quality that everyone desires.

The pedigree of the ingredients is uncompromisingly natural, chosen from the wide range of resources provided by Mother Nature. The resultant natural, even vegan skincare products are comprised of premium ingredients such as macadamia nut, shea and cocoa butter, green tea extracts, herbs from the Alpine region, and crisp, Tyrolean alpine water. Maintaining the resultant natural scent and integrity of the combined ingredients, we do not add any unnecessary additives like perfume. The product line’s consistent scent is instead a result of an invariable selection of essential oils used across all products, producing a subtle, elegant and fresh scent.

An uncompromising standard for the choice and procurement of the ingredients is further elevated by a consistent approach to the manufacturing sight and process of SA.AL&CO’s skincare products. We are therefore collaborating with the vanguard lab and manufacturer for natural skincare in Austria. In the quest for premium quality and maximum enjoyment, we furthermore incorporated an obvious yet oftentimes overlooked aspect in skincare, especially true for natural products: keeping the time elapsing from bottling to delivery to a bare minimum as natural ingredients revel their foremost efficacy when they maintain a high grade of freshness.

For the packaging, we opted for aluminum, a stylish yet sustainable material. The brushed aluminum used for both tubes and bottles conjures an image of industrial chic and simultaneously creates an instant enjoyment to the haptic sense whilst being easy on the eye. In addition, it is completely and indefinitely recyclable without any loss in quality. It displays excellent barrier properties securing the quality and hygiene of the ingredients. The material’s sturdy disposition meanwhile makes it as good as unbreakable, yet light and compact, and thus an ideal travel companion as all of our products come in carry-on compatible sizes. The black, ribbed caps and pumps made of hard plastic allow for easy handling when opening or closing the products, a functional simplicity creating an unfailing experience.

In personalizing, we elevate our products to the level of significance and exclusivity that we are seeking to attain. It makes them personally relevant to anyone obtaining them and become truly yours by carrying your name or reciting a personal, motivational, or meaningful phrase. As the content of the tubes and bottles last months and no eternity the chosen phrase can equally be constant or else carrying a momentary truth or humor, without the gravity of longevity.

The act of personalization also make these products a special gift. The relevant inscription thus elevates the awesome quality of the product, a product the recipient engages with daily. It reminds him of the benefactor every time he picks up the tube or bottle to read inscriptions of the likes of “to the Best Father”. It is a subtle, intimate way of showing someone that you care and only want the best for them. Reminding them thereof, even when you are not around to say it yourself.

The individualization and personalization are a simple yet significant factor differentiating us form other skincare brands and creating maximum enjoyment, for you.

Following the Kickstarter campaign our products will be available exclusively on our website and in a handful of selected stores. This combination of a physical and online presence lies at the core of SA.AL&CO. It allows us to engage with an enthused community in stores sharing our vision and aesthetic sense and otherwise offering our products directly, through our website. This discards superfluous middlemen and their markups, allowing us to offer products at a great value.

The first product in our skincare line is the 011 Hair and Body Wash. Conceived for the shower or bath it combines the needs of body with those of scalp and hair. A man’s cleansing requirements can occur in the morning before launching into the day, following a satisfactory workout or in the evening before going to rest. This in mind, we complimented an effective cleansing effect with a refreshing and revitalizing sensation. A balance between having a potent yet not aggressive product for most men and skin types required an uncompromising focus on the ingredients. The result is an effective product that refreshes, soothes as well as protects the skin with premium ingredients and a subtle, elegant as well as fresh natural scent.

Creating the 021 Shaving Crème is a tenacious undertaking at a time of the beard’s renaissance, seen everywhere from Asia across Europe to the Americas. It is also an underappreciated product with only few skincare lines offering an outstanding version. The wet shave, the basis for the traditional morning routine, thus ought to be refreshing and effective to recapture a shaving experience one looks forward to, every day anew.

As with some other skincare products the desired effects of this crème are twofold. The first is to enhance the gliding properties of the blade across the face accompanied with a softening of the facial hairs. The second and subsequent effect is the soothing and rejuvenation of the skin, which we approached with a selection of ingredients making the use of an average after-shave nearly superfluous. The potent, natural ingredients achieve two, subsequent effects making the 021 a reliably companion for an optimal shaving experience along with a subtle, elegant and fresh scent, which familiar across all our products.

SA.AL&CO’s 031 After Shave Balm creates a long lasting, optimal post-shave experience. The focus is on a man’s needs following a close wet shave and thus to regain a level of hydration whilst disinfecting and protecting the pores and the surface of the skin. It is especially relevant following a shave that may dehydrate and irritate the skin. Even with the best blades and shaving crème may suffer invisible, micro-wounds as the blade slides across the skin. The targeted effect is a sense of lasting freshness and a supple touch through a contraction of the effected pores. The skin briskly absorbs the balm in fashion preferred by men who enjoy a prompt application and completion of this daily routine. The subtle, elegant and fresh scent, consistent across all our products, strikes a balance between being lasting yet not dominant, especially relevant when using an eau de cologne.

The 041 Dry Skin Moisturizer has been conceived for a man’s daily need to rehydrate the skin in the face and on the hand. The focus lies on rehydrating as well as soothing the skin, so we created a rich cream comprised of premium, natural ingredients. The compatibility for most skin types is in the center of the development of a moisturizer that satisfies rehydration needs up to, but not including, chapped skin. The moisturizer highlights the same subtle, elegant, and fresh scent familiar across all our products, which lasts while not being dominant. It is a product for those already appreciating the soothing effect of a regularly used premium moisturizer as well as those, who will find themselves hooked to this sensation through the 041.

SA.AL&CO’s approach to deodorants is unsurprisingly simple but uncompromising. A refusal to use parabens and aluminum does not mean compromising on the efficacy of the deodorant whilst clearly reducing the risk of stains on shirts. The mild, potent and reliable deodorant instead uses a selection of proven and powerful natural ingredients. It makes the deodorant equally suitable for a slow day in the office as well as for a proper workout session outdoors.

Like other products in our skincare line, the deodorant has a twofold role, namely stopping the unwanted odor as well as reducing the sweating process. Although seemingly interdependent, the two effects are unrelated as the unwanted odor is not a result of the sweating process itself, since sweat is nearly odorless. Instead, it is a result of bacteria that break down one of two types of sweat, thus stopping the occurrence of the odor requires the use of ingredients with antibacterial properties. The role of another set of natural ingredients meanwhile helps to reduce the perspiration in a natural, potent and reliable manner. The subtle, elegant, and fresh scent reinforces the effect of the deodorant and makes it a dependable skincare utility for every man, ever day anew.

Risks and challenges

We are very conscious of the possibility of unforeseen challenges as we are shifting from a design and development stage to a full-fledged production phase and bringing the products to market. Even as we cooperate with a qualified and experienced company in the development and subsequent manufacturing of the products, as well as other experienced individuals and firms in other business areas, challenges may occur. We are especially alert to the following three areas of possible challenges whilst on the constant lookout for other possible risks and challenges:

- Production Delays caused due to unforeseen issues in bringing the products to market.
- Delays and unforeseen issues surrounding approvals for distribution beyond the EU i.e. with the FDA in the USA.
- Delivery Delays in the case of overwhelming support of the campaign, stretching our available resources in processing the delivery of the products especially concerning the individualization and personalization, processing orders, and/or in obtaining the packaging materials in the appropriate quantities and the envisioned time frame.
