We’re happy and excited to be here doing our first Kickstarter. We have been working hard for the last 18 months on our new album and we need your help to finish and deliver it. In return for your pledge you’ll receive everything from downloads and CD’s to bundles with T-shirts, me calling you on Skype, or Andy and I coming to your party and playing for you.
If you’re new to Kickstarter, it’s easy to pledge — it takes about 30 seconds, the same way it would if you were on Amazon, com, and you only have to pay if we reach our goal. Of course, that means that our project only gets supported if we reach our goal. So we really have to reach our goal!
Two years ago as we were preparing to start on this album, Andy and I realized that we had to dig deeper and bring a new level of honesty, artistry and revelation to what we were doing. We are so excited for you to hear the result we could scream.
In order to finish it, we need funding for mixing equipment, mastering fees, album-related travel expenses, design and manufacturing and shipping costs. We also want to give this album a real shot for visibility beyond our beloved fan base. We have a budget to hire expert marketing people to help us reach radio as well as music bloggers and other media people who can put Black Lab out in the open. We believe so much in this album we want it to fly.
Obviously, we need you to support the Kickstarter. Let greed be your guide and just go for it! Remember, you have 30 days to save up money before you have to pay for it :)
But even more importantly, we need you to support the band — by reaching out to your networks of friends, family, co-workers, old college roommates, and that acquaintance whom you remember is in the music business. Any of the people you know can make a difference, but all of them combined will definitely make a difference.
Would you be willing to send out some emails about our Kickstarter? Post on social media about it every other day? Maybe send some Facebook messages to friends with a link to the page?
Every day we are inundated with music — on radio, in movies, tv, commercials, games and youtube, and in stores, clubs, restaurants, etc. How can a poor little rock band cut through all that noise? We can’t.
But you can! If you’re like me, you often get turned on to new music by having it thrust upon you by a friend or family member. YOU can be the annoying friend or family member who earns their everlasting gratitude by introducing them to the pleasures of Black Lab.
You're the lifeblood that keeps this machine going, keeps us making music, supports our flights of fancy and feeds us a steady diet of encouragement.
We appreciate everything you do for us and hope you’ll keep coming back to this page for more goodies. We can’t wait to hear from you.
All our love,
paul & andy
We love our backers and intend to take good care of you:
All downloads will be delivered the first day we have the finished product in our hot little hands, well ahead of the official release date and the manufacturer delivery of the physical CDs. That's why a download is included with every reward -- so you can get the music ASAP.
There will be a limited number of exclusive, Kickstarter-edition CDs, each hand-signed by me and Andy. Get ‘em while they last.
The T-shirts will be a limited Kickstarter-edition, available here only (you'll get to choose size and color later on). Check ‘em out below!

As far as the skype sessions and performance visits go, we'd like to set those up at a mutually agreeable time in the next 2-6 months. We will cover all travel/transportation/hotel costs. This should be excellent fun.
**Ok, we're going to start posting updates here, so please keep checking back as we add more rewards, stretch goals, and info on existing rewards.
1. Sweetener -- if you pledge at the $3k or $5k level and want me/us to come out and play a show at a club for you and your friends, I/we will play two sets of 40/50 minutes each, not just one. We are psyched to do these, and are available anytime in the next 12 months!
2. Sweetener -- any and all backers above the $120 level will get their name in the album credits. So come on and bring us to your town!
3. Sweetener -- the amazing digital box set will ALSO include the fabulous Mirror Ball Associates album. How could you pass it up?
4. Additional Rewards (crap, forgot to add this before now) -- A Day in the Studio with Andy & Paul (get to hang while we write and record a song and help us lay down the background vocals), and The Distributor's Package (10 copies of the new CD delivered for $90).
5. Additional Stretch Goals -- We are going to make this thing the most epic Kickstarter of all time. Scroll up to check out the awesome new goodies coming if we really blow the roof off this thing!
6. Clarification -- the Handwritten Lyrics reward includes, of course, your choice of any set of lyrics from any Black Lab song.
7. New T-Shirts!!!! -- featuring the name of the freakin' album. When all this is over we'll send you a form where you can select any of the available shirts in terms of women's/unisex, color, v-neck/crew, size, and design -- all of these parameters interchangeable.
8. Clarification -- the Black Lab Box Set will of course come with a deluxe download.
We’ll be announcing other amazing new stuff as the campaign builds to an exciting climax, so stay tuned!

Thank you so much for helping us reach our funding goal in the first 36 hours of the Kickstarter. We are grateful and humbled.
We wanted to communicate how much we appreciated you so we made you a little video:
If you like the song please send the video to someone you care about, and if you would like a free mp3 of the song, please head over to blacklabworld.com and download one under the "Free Mp3 of the Month" heading in the top black bar (sign the email list while you are there if you're not getting our mailings).
Thank you again!
Risks and challenges
We anticipate challenges but no risks, really. We've been manufacturing, selling and fulfilling CDs, T-shirts, posters and downloads for over ten years -- with tens of thousands served.
The album is recorded and ready to go. We have a few arrangement arguments to have and mixes to tweak but a mastering date is easily acquired and we plan to use our regular CD and T-shirt manufacturers, both of which are bulletproof in the schedule department.
Everything should go smooth and be right on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
