Lancaster Community Gardens is a new effort to bring community gardens across the Lancaster area.
We're building community gardens (organic!) on 22 acres behind Wheatland Middle School, and need to build a fence to keep the critters out.
Anyone can take a plot for just $20 annually; so far plot-holders include neighbors, city dwellers, resettled refugees, students, and the principal (who has the nicest plot so far!)

We hope to grow the garden areas over the next few years to several acres, and maybe expand to include urban farming.
Some of the produce will be donated to local food banks. We have allocated at least 2000 square feet for community plots and student plots.
The fence is 6 feet high with a two-foot section 1 foot underground to keep the groundhogs away. We're installing it on June 23rd, including a 2-feet wide by 1-foot deep trench. We can really use your help as a volunteer!
Without the fence, few plants will survive. No plants, no gardens, no new community interactions, student learning opportunities, or extra produce for the local food banks.
We need just $3000 from supporters to fund the fence--volunteers will construct it and dig the trench. So far have over 70 plots, some of which are still available. We already have pledges totaling $700!
We plan to install more gardens around Lancaster, because they truly do bring people together, teach all of us, and help us produce healthy food for ourselves and others.
