About this project
Not that we ever recommend that you feed the case to any animals or to be used as teether by infants - The Bloom case has non toxic coating including the plastic holder.
We started the project with one idea in mind - To create an iPhone 5 case; to sum it up in one word - Unique. We are sure everybody agrees that we have all had cases in gazillion colors (from Black to "Amsterdam Dawn Purple Mist" or Purple as we say it) to different types such ones that are Waterproof to the ones that are really Superhero Tough cases (Thicker than shoe soles to protect against accidental drops from 13th floor).
The idea was to create a case which enhances the ultra-luxurious feel on an iPhone. In the perfect world we would all love to have the iPhone 5 without any kind of cases or films or layer padding. Since, in real life the iPhone 5 especially the back is still a scratch magnet, we had to think of something. We researched different materials that were available till the idea of using wood germinated. Okay! We admit it - We used Chopsticks as an inspiration to create this case i.e. after having take-out Chinese one day (We usually do think better with food).
With the inspiration - Project Bloom was born. We worked with following objectives:
- Every wood is different with natural grain which is as unique as our fingerprints, so each case would be different from other
- Hand-polished treated wood to create a long lasting value for the user to prevent fingerprints and scratch marks
- Premium wood veneer would be about 1mm thin to make the cases featherlight and add no weight or bulk to an iPhone
- Sustainable wood would be only used for cases from FSC Certified sources
- The precision cut plastic holder for iPhone would have a smooth, non-slip surface for easy hold
The final objective was to assemble the cases right here in "The Great White North - Canada". Check out some images from the work-floor:

After working at creating just "Maple" cases we added on a few more wood types sourced from around the globe.Check them out, below:
Our Kickstarter Campaign Timeline is divided among 5 variable to make this campaign a success from initial development to delivery to your home, as below:
We started working on our cases in early October last year, perfecting the design to getting the prototypes made before they were further refined into what we have today. We have continually been perfecting our case and will continue it all the way till we start shipping them. All our case development has been done locally and proudly in Calgary, AB.
This is where you (Backers) come in. We have worked really hard on creating the best case to compliment your iPhone and now we need the support from our backers to not only back the project, but also get the word out to everyone to make our campaign a success. This is one step where everything is in your hands.
Once our campaign is successful, the next step is to send the "Survey" to all our backers. For all the folks wondering what a survey is; the answer is - This finalizes the choice of your pledge if you want to change anything, be it another model or change of address. There will be a 2-week window to conclude all the surveys to finalize what gets manufactured and ships.
As soon as the Kickstarter Campaign concludes we plan to start off with our production by mid-march. We will get a headstart as we will know via the pledge groups which models to start working on. Our Production will happen in 3 phases as below:
- PHASE 1: We will start with procurement of FSC Certified Wood from our selected supplier.
- PHASE 2: We will start off with wood treatment to prepare the wood for CNC machine precision cut. Cutting would be done off-site and would require about a week before we get to polish, refine and assemble into what becomes your iPhone case.
- PHASE 3: This where we start polishing and refining the wood backers that are bonded to the plastic shell. Our production concludes with all manufactured goods packaged in mailers for shipping.
As the cases are manufactured we will be starting the process of batch shipping to backers based on models that are finished first. We plan to start off with shipping by the 3rd week of April.
All the Backers will be getting regular updates about each phase and an open dialogue will be maintained with all the backers at all times.
The Kickstarter community has the awesome ability to turn great ideas into reality. We have been working on the Bloom Case since October last year and have invested a lot of time and money on our creation. We need your support to craft the ultra-luxurious case to go with your beautifully designed iPhone. With your backing, you’ll help us fund the manufacturing process locally in Calgary, AB and enable us to control the quality to create our premium Bloom Case.
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter Project and the challenge is mainly to be able to get the word out to all the Kickstarter members as well as media about our campaign. We need the backers to get the word out to all their friends and family via Facebook, Twitter or other available means.
The other potential question that backers might have is our ability to have the production completed and be able to ship on time. We wanted to take the opportunity to clear any doubts as we have been into product development for a few years where we have produced and shipped products to major retailers.
We have been prototyping and testing for quite a few months and have worked out the major kinks regarding production locally. We have also been observing other Kickstarter project executions to learn from their shortcomings.
We will be monitoring the project progress every moment to meet any challenges and to answer any questions. Thanks for your Support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
