The design of the illumiSAFE was inspired by a strong need for discreet and quickly accessible personal safes.
The illumiSAFE is an elegant lamp with the dual function of keeping you connected to your valuables. It can be customized both inside and out. You can store anything from your prescription drugs, passports, to your jewelry.
The illumiSAFE was created to replace the outdated technology of traditional keypad or lock-and-key safes. Safe technology has remained mostly unchanged with only minor developments in the locking mechanisms and has yet to incorporate any of the advances of home automation movement. Moreover, because the visual design of the safe hasn't changed, most safe owners keep them in the closet - making them generally inaccessible and inconvenient for everyday use.
The illumiSAFE and illumiSAFE mini are smart lamps that conceal a fully secure and configurable inner compartment. Activated by either a smart phone or an RFID key, the inner compartment of the illumiSAFE and mini extend upward from the lamp base, allowing secure access to an individual’s stored valuables or sensitive items.
The illumiSAFE and the mini come with many standard features to help you keep control and aware of its activity. Your smartphone will receive notifications via WiFi and Bluetooth letting you know the status of the illumiSAFE at all times.

The illumiSAFE and illumiSAFE mini's outside body are customizable. Choose from one of the eight standard colors below, or upgrade to a wooden veneer lamp body that slips over the illumiSAFE.
The illumiSAFE's inner compartment is fully customizable so you can mix and match any number of the following options:
- Up to six small drawers
- Necklace hangers
- Watch holder
- Three big drawers
- Firearm drop-down (can fit up to two firearms)

The inspiration for the illumiSAFE came to Burt, a former mechanical engineer turned Intellectual Property Attorney, who took comfort in the idea of having a firearm in the home to protect his family, but worried about the risk of it falling into the wrong hands. The classic dilemma in responsible gun ownership has been that the more hidden and secure a firearm is made, the more inaccessible it becomes. Burt wondered “Why not secure a firearm in a discreet, safe-grade bedside lamp? ”
Burt took the idea to Mark, a former fellow law student, and the two quickly pulled together a team that could begin the work of designing, refining, and iterating on prototypes until landing on the current concept of the illumiSAFE. The result is a high-quality, technologically impressive, and great looking product that individuals from all walks of life will find incredibly useful. Thankfully, our engineers have extensive manufacturing experience in aerodynamics and medical devices, which they have been able to leverage for this project.
