What is adventure these days and how do we come across it? There are those who go to far and never make it back. Every once in a while there'll be those who figure ways to not only experience wilderness, but also contribute to the general order of things and promote Wild Harmony. By pledging to this project, you are joining a grassroots campaign to get the word out and assist the author and production team in their 'on the road' tour. We are living in a new world and do not always need to depend on the old system. Let's embrace this brilliant line of systems thinking (referred to in Wild Harmony)!
Departing on a Friday evening (7/27). Leaving Dayton early in the morning for St. Louis to see the gateway of the west and dinner in Kansas City before retiring in Manhattan, the one in Kansas (7/28). Maybe a few copies of Wild Harmony will become available at the Dusty Bookshelf. Off to Colorado (7/29) for three days with the Alaskan. Then on to Salt Lake City (8/1) to hop in the water and camp. Maybe drop a few books off to The King’s English Bookshop. Through Nevada (8/2) to Yosemite for a night checking out the stars. San Francisco follows for a few days. If good form still goes around and comes around, Wild Harmony will be placed on the shelves of City Lights.
Following San Fran, we will drive to Big Sur (8/6) to camp and then along State Route One to Ventura (8/7). Calico Cat Bookshop may consider adding Wild Harmony to their shelves if everyone plays their cards right. Los Angeles (8/8) is still up in the air with set plans, but hopefully Joe Rogan will have some time to podcast. Then it’s Vegas (8/10) for some madness and a Wild Harmony event. Phoenix (8/11) has some promising bookstores and is the start of the eastward sprint to San Antonio (8/12). Exhaustion is likely to set in by the time we arrive in New Orleans for a two day stopover (8/13). Another event awaits on the sands of Myrtle Beach (8/17). TBD from there.
How it works
Opportunities in publishing have radically improved with all the tools available on the world wide web. This gives writers and small businesses incredible abilities to succeed and share their works with as many readers as possible. Wild Harmony will be more than that. In keeping with the style of the book, a promotional tour will commence westward from Cleveland, Ohio at the end of July. If fortune favors the bold is true, Wild Harmony will meet the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco to meet Neil Young, Gary Snyder, and many others. For sure though by the end of August, we will be able to say Wild Harmony is in 20+ states.
About Wild Harmony
Publication Date: June 19, 2012
The world is smaller and many feel they've forgotten the true sense of the American wilderness experience. Millions descend upon Yellowstone National Park for backcountry camping, wildlife viewing, and a number of other forgotten frontier adventures. Rangers and volunteers work to provide the Wild Harmony experience for all who come to witness it and some to even become part of it. Throughout the smiles and cries of those who have lost and gained, they all know in the end that what they saw has made them better than they were before. This journey explores it all.
"All good conversation, manners, and action, come from a spontaneity which forgets usages, and makes the moment great." ~ Emerson, Experience.
In an age where the desire for adventure is easily surrendered in our haste to attain the comforts of security, it is truly a thing of inspiration to rediscover, in the pages of Wild Harmony, that our rich liberty and the American wilderness are still as alive and vivid today as ever they were. This tale of action and honesty is an affirmation, that for those with the bravery and conviction to attain it, adventure, the pursuit of perspective and the revelation of the interconnectedness of us all, remains ours to discover.
In seeking guidance, there are a few immediate lessons all wrapped into a common man's adventure with the motif of history. The theme of turning to the outdoors is always very powerful, and is organically introduced through narrative, with a nod to the wandering spirit of freedom from an earlier era. Can't wait to read the rest of the book!
