Testimonials

"I love the feel of Epicks! They play very well. They're clearly well crafted by people who care about something most guitarists overlook: the quality of the pick in your hand."

-Kyle Samuel, guitarist Rocketboys

"My Epicks pick has been great! its sturdy, grippy, and bumped up my pick speed. I especially like it on my big archtop. I'm definitely recommending Epicks when guys ask about it."

- Reed Miller, guitar ensemble University of North Texas

"I've never really liked wooden picks that much, but my mind and ears did a complete 180 when I got to try these picks out. I haven't used another pick since! Awesome tone and feel for my style."

-Diego Valdez, singer/songwriter

"I like the feel. It creates a much different sound than the ones I currently use. It's a softer, more mellow tone. It looks great as well. I really like the possibilities of what you are doing. I have always been curious about modifying my picks to fit my personal playing style. I think your ability to customize sets you apart from other vendors I have used. I will most certainly be a customer in the future."

-Jason Wahlers

"I have four Epicks so far, and love them all. My polished ebony Epick plays nylon like BUTTER."

-Matthew Walton, guitarist and steel guitarist for Mustang Swing

Epicks are fantastic, but we need your help to make this dream into a reality so that everyone can have their chance at owning an Epick!

Epicks offers custom wooden guitar picks out of woods such as premium Gaboon ebony, Lignum Vitae, and quilted maple. Each pick is cut, beveled, sanded, and polished by hand. From start to finish, every pick receives the attention and love it deserves. Epicks are 100% natural using no fillers, dyes, stains, or synthetic compounds. Because Epicks are all natural, they are also a responsible, sustainable, and green product. There is no reason to keep buying cheap, flimsy, plastic picks, when we can make you the last pick you'll ever need.

**Please note: these picks are not the final products. The logo you see here is not permanent, and will be changed within the coming months. These are the best picks we can make given our current circumstances. Every time we make a pick, it is better than the last one we made. If you aren't satisfied with any of the picks you see here, don't worry, the market product will be spectacular.

Where will the money go?

Our goal is to provide the best hand made picks that money can buy, but as college students, we don't have the capital to purchase equipment or advertising for this project. If we are able to raise our pledged amount from this Kickstarter, the donations will go directly to:

  • Purchasing sanding, buffing, and grinding materials (sand paper, sanding discs, buffing wheels)
  • Laser etching the picks with the Epicks logo
  • Purchasing wood in bulk amounts/purchasing new woods to try out
  • Purchasing a belt sander and/or belt grinder
  • Website design and advertising
  • A laser etching machine (possibly)

If we can invest in the items listed above, we'll finally be able to produce Epicks in a high volume and ship them all over the world. We are very excited to bring these guitar picks to market and we hope you are too!

Tone and individuality

Epicks guitar picks are, in our opinion, the best sounding and best feeling picks available. Each wood has a very distinct and unique tone. The softer woods such as quilted maple or bloodwood, have a warm, rich and smooth tone. The harder woods such as ebony and Lignum Vitae have a bright, crisp and clean tone. The tone of our Epicks also depends on the style and bevel of the pick. Because each Epick is crafted by hand, they each have their own character and feel. Every Epick has a unique grain pattern and overall feel. This makes the picks incredibly comfortable to play, and very personal to own. But don't take our word for it! Make a pledge today and you can have your very own Epicks guitar pick.

Sustainability

One key aspect that sets Epicks apart from the rest is that we use as much recycled and reclaimed wood as possible. In doing this, we are keeping hundreds of pounds of Gaboon ebony, quilted maple, Brazilian cherry and other woods out of the scrap bins and out of landfills. We absolutely encourage minimizing our waste, as well as others' waste. If you have questions about our commitment to waste reduction and sustainability, drop us a line at epicks.info@gmail.com

Just like you like it

Yet another great thing about Epicks, is that unlike synthetic picks, Epicks can be repaired or altered. If for some reason you put a nasty ding or scratch in your Epick, it can easily be sanded out! Similarly, if for some reason you want to alter the shape of your Epick, you can sand it, or cut it so that it is just how you like it

Our commitment to you

We are not a corporation. We do not have a $10 million PR budget. We do not have employees, or contracts, or CNC machines, or a bureaucracy. We are three average guys with a passion for music and an obsession with quality. We want to bring this to the forefront of Epicks. We want to start a business built on honesty and craftsmanship. We are committed to making the highest quality, best feeling, and best sounding hand-made guitar picks available.

Risks and challenges

A major challenge that we face as college students is time consumption and money. Without our own personal tools, producing these picks is very difficult. With no personal tools, we have to commute from Denton to Austin (about 250 miles) every weekend to make the picks using the tools of personal friends. This is an unnecessary waste of time, and fuel. It is also a burden for our personal friends who lend us their tools.

Our ultimate goal is to make the best hand-made guitar picks possible, and in our current situation we are unable to ensure the quality and quantity of the picks we want to make. We are getting close to our goal, and with the funds from Kickstarter we would be able to push past our obstacles and reach the final goal that we have envisioned.
