About

Segmental pavers have been used for thousand of years. The Romans build roads with them that are still here today. Now days, typically the paved surface is formed by preparing the paving stone off side in a factory, transporting cured stones to the paving site and manually placing each stone on prepared bed.

These additional steps in manufacturing and transportation result in this technique to be very costly and often over-looked.

The machines introduced in last two decades only assist in placing already made pavers.

Paving the Future has developed patented mobile paving machine at the proof-of-concept stage.

Our paving machine advantages:

. 3-in-one solution cast and place the paver on side.

. Radical cost reduction of the paver and installation.

. This paving system offers an opportunity to change the way the paving stone is utilized in paving industry.

. It is not just about to outperform the techniques that we are using today but make more financial & economical & environmental sense.

Such a system can be easily scaled up to better suit, laying pavers on larger surfaces like roads, streets, parking lots, airports, etc. Different cast materials and dyes can be used to produce many styles. For even larger surfaces, multiple machines can be used to pave huge amounts of area in considerably less time. The machine may further include the paint sprayer, printing your favorite picture on your driveway, street, etc.

Preliminary Market Study Report for this Mobile Paving Machine performed by third party discusses the strong business case for large potential market in North America.

. The environment and dynamics of world economic growth that resulted in asphalt`s paving cost advantages no longer exist. Since asphalt is by-product of oil refining, the new global realities suggest that asphalt`s long held paving cost advantage over concrete products has not only eroded-but has already reversed.

. New storm water regulations are encouraging the use of pavers.

. Concrete pavers are effective at handling both, storm water runoff and traffic. In late 2012, the California Department of Transportation become the first DOT to introduce regulations for concrete pavers. In 2012 for the first time permeable pavement provisions were included in the most important federal transportation bill in the US, a $105 billion bill called MAP-21.

.Compared to pervious concrete and porous asphalt, concrete pavers provides the best looking, easiest to maintain pavement choice with high in-service durability in range of climates.

. Concrete pavers will reduce:

-size of our ecological footprint

-a need for costly sewer system

-flood & pollutant problems

-maintenance cost and etc.

First steps & prototype & test and what we have learned from it:

Poor design of the first prototype combine with lack of money led to scraping this project.

-Good thing that we did not have much of our own money to spend.

With a new design, we start building another prototype but run in to mechanical problems.

-Back to design & detailed drawings.

For the first time this prototype spit out the pavers but came with a big can of worms. The molds were jamming, electrical & control system got out of hands etc. Just did not look right, way too complicated.

-This time we lost too much but learned a lot as well, it was just too late to quit.

New design was well prepared, we though. At an early stage of building new prototype, somehow just new idea led to stopping this project.

-Good decision, thank you to our team member Carol.

-Back to napkin drawings and within two weeks we knew, now we are on the right track.

-This time, we reused most of the parts for existing prototype.

This oops!! was eliminated by the youngest team member James.

Existing Prototype requires supply of: concrete-0 slump, compressed air, 115AC, water.

Production: 1.5sq.Ft. per min./90sq.Ft. per. Hr., pavers cast and placed.

The quality of paver (compressive strength, freeze/thaw resistance) relays on concrete type.

We eliminated most of the technical risk and added a second foundation of good market knowledge, we showed the prototype in action to professionals from various manufacturing fields and ........

What we have learned from it?

Do not miss maintenance fees for our Patent.

Add the value to this project.

Why Demo PTF6 ?

Existing prototype is too small to absorb the amount of the concrete coming out from concrete mixer truck- curing time frame. Prototype have to be scaled up, so we can do demonstration in real world situations.

For that reason we will build the Demo. Unit PTF6 needed in marketing & commercialising process. PTF6 will produce 6Ft. wide path (paver size 12"x6"x3,25"), production 270sq.Ft. / Hr.

What we have done so far:

2011- Prototype was completed and tested.

2012- Paving the Future was funded.

2012- Discovery Channel- Daily Planet is interested in this project.

2013- US Patent was issued and granted on all claims. US 8,342,773.

2013- Patent pending in Canada.

2013- Preliminary Market Study was performed by third independent party

2013- This Project was nominated for RBC Royal Bank innovation award

Paving the Future business plan:

- Continue making steady progress.

- Increase our marketing efforts.

- Complete drawings (80% done) for Demo. PTF6-March 2014.

- Complete quotation (budget quotation done)------April  2014.

- May 2014 start building PTF6, due to size of the project 80% of the work will be contract out to companies with long experience in automation, hydraulics, machining and fabrication, these parties are already familiar with the project. They will assist in start-up and troubleshooting process as well.

- Demo. will be completed in -  August 2014.

- Testing the Demo. in real life situations - September 2014.

- Lunch PTF6, starting with local TV and Discovery Channel- Daily Planet, they are already familiar with this project. Trade shows etc.

From here we will look for suitable manufacturing/marketing partner & investors. At the present time we got three manufactures looking in to it, one from US and two based in Canada.

This Project was build on solid grounds from the first spark, your funding will make Paving the Future even stronger and the most important, it will increase awareness of this product.

Our team:

Myself Randy with 35 years of experience in technical/ mechanical & electrical industry.

My wife Carol with 15 years of experience in accounting, research & development.

Our son James, High school student with fantastic input in to this project.

Kickstarter is saying this is not just a project this is a story.

So let`s do it together with happy ending.

Down the road, everybody will benefit from it.

Risks and challenges

Risk & challenges.
Prototype is at the proof-of-concept stage. We eliminated most of the technical risk. Demo. UnitPTF6 will be almost identical to existing prototype.
What will change?
- PTF6 will be wider producing 6Ft. wide path of pavers and will be able to engage the rows together.
- New electrical& control system based on PLC will provide better and more flexible control of the machine.
- New hydraulic system will give the machine more durability.
- 80% PTF6 will consist of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic devices commonly used in similar environment.

The risk was involved in this project from the first spark. We manage to get where we are now and will do again.

Paving industry just starts opening the doors for new paving solutions. The trend is pushing the change for replacement of asphalt by 20%. New storm water regulations establishing solid grounds for Paving the Future to enter the market place.,
