We are happy to introduce the Critical Dice, a set of custom dice with a new critical hit system to your role-playing games.
Your critical hits will no longer be the same and will now add amazing effects and flavor to your game! Using them is extremely simple and satisfying: when you roll a critical hit on a d20, roll all six dice instead of simply doubling the damage. Check the results as they will combo together, producing a unique crit effect!
We have analyzed all the possible effects one can hope to roll on his critical hits and have added the best to our system: other than additional damage, you can give penalties to the AC, to the Saving Throws, to Movement or to the use of Magic, you can also push your enemies to the ground, stun them, frighten them, or make them deaf or blind and many more effects. We have then placed them in a way to make sure you can roll all the dice together and never roll similar effects twice!
Roll all 6 dice together and check the combined result! there are over 260.000 different possible combinations!
Let's take a closer look! There are six 12-sided dice. Each die determines a different aspect that will be added to your critical hit: Movement, Defenses, Special Conditions, Additional Damage, Bleeding Effects and the Duration that your critical hit has caused. Adding all the different results together will determine your unique critical hit! Only the Duration die has 12 possible results, the other dice all have 5 blank faces out of 12. This way the results are balanced, without turning every hit into an overpowered one! And remember, the Game Master can also use these dice against you!
Let's see some examples:
"The red dragon was critically hit! Roll the Critical Dice!"
While in this roll the violet and grey die have rolled blanks, the red die adds 1d8 extra damage. The orange die allows the attacker to reroll once any number of damage dice rolled (including the extra 1d8 die!).
The black and green dice work together: as the target of the critical hit will have disadvantage (black die) for 1 round (green die) on all his rolls.
"You hit the dragon right between the ribs, and twist your sword before pulling it back out, causing it to tremble in pain for the next few moments"
This time the red and orange dice rolled blanks, while the other dice caused some interesting effects.
The target of the critical hit will not be able to use a weapon (natural or physical; violet die), it will be stunned (gray die), and its movement will be reduced by 50% (black die) for 2 rounds (green die).
"Your blow hits the dragon's claws, breaking its bones and making it roar in agony. The dragon is stunned by the pain and limps for a while!"
With a lucky roll of only 1 blank on the red die, we have an amazing effect! The target of the critical hit will not be able to cast spells (violet die) for 1 round (green die), it will fall down (gray die), and it will become last in the next Initiative (black die). The skull on the orange die doesn't make anything happen this time (but look below to see how skulls work!).
"With an unexpected slash to the dragon's face you disrupt its concentration for the next seconds. The massive beast falls to the ground wailing, and you exploit this to attack first!"
This is the same result of the example above, but the red die now has a Skull! All dice have a single skull symbol. These skulls work together and can cause the death of the target with a single hit and only a saving throw can negate this. The Difficulty of the check (DC) depends on the number of Skulls shown on the dice: DC 5 with 2 Skulls, DC 10 with 3, DC 15 with 4, DC 20 with 5 and DC 25 with 6.
"This slash is very deep, possibly ending the dragon's tyranny! Let's see what happens!" And the Saving Thow will tell us...
We made a useful player aid to help players to check the dice results. We have to say that in most cases the players can read the dice without any help, as the symbols are easy to read. This player aid is meant to be used during the first times players roll the Critical Dice. It is available for download in English (and it will be available also in French and Italian ... other languages will be available upon request).
After the campaign, you will receive an email that will give you access to our Pledge Manager. The Pledge Manager is a special area of our site, where you can review your pledge, add more rewards, addons and also other games.
In the Pledge Manager you will also be able to review the details of your address and pay the shipping costs.

We live in Rome, Italy. We love how board games and role-playing games bring people around the table, giving every player their own space to find their way to win. We love to create something new, bringing passion and fun to other people. Developing games is the most interesting thing: exploring new ways to play and think while having fun is just fantastic!
Risks and challenges
Availability. You must take into consideration that the shipment date is indicative. We will do our best to respect such date, but delays may occur for reasons beyond our control, such as production delays, or issues with transport or Customs. Please note also that it's a shipment date, not a delivery date. Delivery timing depends on the place where you live and on the shipment method selected.
Components. The specifications of components and contents, images and illustrations must be considered as merely indicative of the final product and may be subject to change without notice.
Fairs. It is possible for the game's shipment to be scheduled during a time frame close to a large game fair, such as Essen Fair in Germany or Lucca Comics and Games in Italy. It is important to note that we will be showing/selling the game at these fairs independently of campaign shipment status. Attending these fairs is vital to the game's chances for success.
Missing Fair pickup. If you chose this option and the game is not available at the Fair (for any reason), or you simply missed to pick it up, you will able to change your shipping method by clicking the button "Change shipment" on your order page on www.giochistarter.it. You will have to pay the shipping costs.
Order Canceling. An order can be canceled and fully refunded before the end of the campaign by clicking on the specific button on the order page. After the end of the campaign, the order can still be canceled within 15 days from the campaign ending date by sending us an e-mail with the specific request. Please note that in this case the refund will not include the processing costs and will be limited to the 90% of the amount paid. Besides these options, the order is considered valid and is not cancelable/refundable.
Complaints deadline. We will no longer accept complaints about this campaign's products after 12 months from the date of availability of the game. For any problems related to shipping, like damage or missing items inside the shipping package, complaints must reach us within 7 days from the date of delivery.
Shipments. We ship by postal service or by supported courier (UPS, GLS, SDA, DHL, etc.).
We reserve the right to separate the contents of order into different shipments or to merge the contents of different orders in the same shipment to improve the shipment's delivery speed and any required logistics management. If this happens, there will not be any additional costs to you as a customer nor right to any refund.
Shipments made by courier or by insured postal service can be tracked. Shipments made by the postal service cannot be traced and, although it happens very rarely (0.1-1% of cases), they can be lost.
Courier shipments may take about 1-2 days for Italy, 3-6 days for EU/US/Canada and 1-2 weeks for the rest of the world. Postal service shipments require about 1-2 weeks for Italy, 3-10 weeks for EU/US/Canada and 4-14 weeks for the rest of the world. Please note that the postal service can be slow and may suffer several weeks of additional delay, especially near or during the holidays, like Christmas. This happens very rarely but it is still a possibility and is out of our control. If you would like faster delivery or wish to avoid any risk of a long delay in the arrival of the package, please use a courier service.
Courier shipment assurance insures against package loss, destruction, and package damage. Postal service insurance insures against package loss or destruction. Insurance requires a customer claim to be made when the package is delivered: if you spot any damage, please ask the postal carrier to make you a receipt "accepted with reserve". Then inform us immediately.
Please remember that after 7 days from receipt of the package, the carriers and post do not accept claims about any damage that may have occurred. Please note also that the game box is not replaceable. The carrier company to decide unquestionably whether to accept the complaint and to provide the reimbursement that they deem appropriate.
If the game failed to arrive because of your mistake (wrong address, recipient absent, not picking up at courier/postal warehouse, etc.), you will have to pay an additional shipping/warehousing cost for us to re-send/re-deliver your game. This cost will also include the return costs of the game. On the other hand, if the error is ours, we will send it again to you at our expense. If the package is lost or destroyed, we will reship it at our expense, only if it was insured. In this case, it will be the customer's responsibility to choose for a second shipment, a safer or more reliable method if the first one did not work and to pay any difference in cost if any. The choice of non-traceable shipping methods for a second shipment will automatically exonerate us from any responsibility regarding the delivery of the game.
Please note that we will not reship any game without first having investigated what happened to the first shipment. This can be processed quickly through the courier service option but may require an additional 1-5 weeks through the postal service.
If you live outside of the European Community, customs taxes may be added. If this happens, the transporter company could add a cost to the management of Customs. This usually doesn't happen for boardgames; however, please check your country's rules and regulations as this aspect will not be our responsibility.
USA-friendly, Canada-friendly, EU friendly. A project may have a "friendly" indication indicating that there are no customs fees in the specified country or area. So "USA-friendly" means that there are no customs fees for shipments to the USA. In some cases, this property may be limited to the type of shipping indicated (for example, only for the postal service).
However, please remember that this aspect only applies to shipments that include the game/product object of the project and the items shipped with it. Does not include any other orders made separately on our sites.
Please consider also that the "friendly" indication may in very rare cases and for reasons beyond our control lapse if the international commercial conditions change. For example, participants in Great Britain could find themselves paying customs duties for Brexit; the same could happen for participants in the US if the Government adds specific duties for boardgames. In the unlikely event that this should occur, you will be required to pay the import duties, as required by the law of your country of residence.
Pledge Manager. After a few weeks from the end of the campaign, the Pledge Manager will be active. This procedure allows participants to confirm and revise their order, to purchase addons and to update their profile/delivery address. The Pledge manager will be up for a few days to a specific deadline. We strongly recommend all participants to complete the pledge manager within the expiration date. If not, please consider that:
- Any campaign special price for addons expires with the Pledge Manager deadline. After that date, all addon will be available at a normal price.
- We will not able to guarantee the availability of any exclusive content made in limited quantity.
- We will not able to guarantee the scheduled shipment date as a delay could happen.
- We will not able to guarantee the pickup in Rome or at a Fair's Stand (if available in the project).
