Meet MIYO – Your music's new best friend.
Your computer is built to do just about anything — high resolution video, super-fast processing, massive amounts of storage; one thing it is not designed for is producing the best sound quality possible.
And you don't want to spend a fortune or sacrifice mobility to get that quality. If you're a music creator or fan, you're simply missing out.
MIYO lets you rediscover your favorite music as though it were it high-quality vinyl.
Ok, but why is MIYO any different?!
Don't get us wrong — there are some audio companies that are great (with great people behind them) who make incredible gear. But if you want to enjoy your favorite music, movies and games with the same world class sound only found in professional recording studios, you NEED a great converter.
And if you're a producer that frequently uses tons of inputs/outputs, the rack pictured above would serve you well. But if you don't need that much I/O (and we have found that most people don't), or just need a killer rig in a tiny package, MIYO delivers the same amazing sound quality you would expect from that rack, at a fraction of the size and cost!
Want the best sound? You need MIYO.
Quality Sound. No compromise, equal to the best studio-grade equipment in the world.
Elegant Design. Crafted in the US, focused on simplicity — just plug in a USB cable.
Portable. Brings studio quality sound wherever you go.
As an artist or engineer, you can rely on MIYO.
Your audio interface is the crucial link between you and your sound. MIYO is uncompromising when it comes to studio sound quality, and will be right at home alongside your most valued gear.
And when you’re not in the studio, you no longer have to sacrifice on sound quality. MIYO is ultra-portable, bringing sound you can trust wherever your music takes you.
And when you need to record, MIYO has a stereo input with pristine analog-to-digital conversion, and innovative metering to be sure you get perfect levels.
MIYO makes you fall in love with music all over again.
You’ll hear details and nuance you never knew were there, and you’ll feel the music just as the artist intended. It’s also easy to use — just plug in a USB cable. MIYO is ready for almost any music your computer can play, even hi-res files, and it will all sound better than ever.
If you’re listening on high-end headphones, you’ve already invested in great sound quality. But when plugged directly into your computer, your investment gets lost in cheap audio components and little attention to sound quality. And with two isolated high-headroom headphone amplifiers, MIYO lets you — and a friend — hear what you’ve been missing.
MIYO isn't just different – it's smarter.
Hear studio-quality audio everywhere you go: Sample rates up to 192kHz, 24-bit • Best-of-class conversion specs, only found before in large, complicated recording studio converters
2 high-end headphone amplifiers: Exceptionally high-headroom amplifiers for superior dynamic response • High output power for handling any scenario • Totally separate power, performance will never suffer from having a 2nd set of headphones plugged in • Analog output attenuation using OS volume control, no loss of fidelity due to digital bit-reduced attenuation • Both headphone jacks also double as 1/8” optical outputs
Ultra portable: Very small footprint, making it easy to carry in any pocket • Take the sound of the recording studio anywhere you go • Whether mixing or recording, MIYO takes care of your needs on the road — without hauling around racks of gear
Unique metering: Proprietary "folding" meters gives you usable level information at a glance • Separate meter modes for recording — just plug in a line input, and MIYO takes care of the rest • Clip indication for both playback and input recording
Who We Are
Our team consists of three people with almost 50 years of combined audio experience, and an obsession with music:
Jon Hillman is a composer, sound designer, and programmer currently working on the critically acclaimed game That Dragon, Cancer. He also worked on the manufacturing side of pro audio for 10 years, most notably as product manager of award-winning DAW software. Jon's passion for all things audio started at the piano at age 4, and has continued through his professional life. He is the proud father of two awesome kids, and married to the most amazing woman alive.
Scott Harrell is a product designer with a passion for user experience and interaction. For over 10 years his designs have set standards in the MI industry for interfaces, remote mixing and recording applications. This work can be seen in over 1,000,000 products sold worldwide. He's always experimenting with technology to find new and innovative music workflows. He's a multi-instrumentalist currently using a mix of embedded computers and analog synths for live performance, and is constantly pushing to find what's next. When he's not playing music, he's playing games, enjoying a beer, or both.
Marc Lindahl has been designing pro audio gear for more than 28 years (yikes!). He has designed all manner of products - mixing consoles, powered monitors, hard disk recorders, drum machines, effects units, audio analyzers, DAW hardware and software, DSP accelerators, and plugins for the most well known names in audio industry. While at dbx, he worked for Bob Adams, the inventor of the multi-bit sigma-delta converter. While leading Sonorus, he invented the now industry-standard S/MUX format for carrying 24/96 and 24/192 audio via optical cables. When not in the lab he might be found playing keys at various clubs on Bleeker Street, restoring old analog synths, or eating noodles in Chinatown with his wife.
Put simply, we know audio.
Where We Are
More than a year of research and development has brought us to this point, where we're ready to put MIYO in your hands. Deceptively simple, MIYO is the result of tons of discussion, iteration, and listening.
Here's where we're at:
- 2nd release candidate hardware prototypes
- Fully functional, feature complete firmware
- 1st release candidate machined aluminum enclosure
- Nearing final selection manufacturing partners, all in the US
- Our personal savings and countless hours invested
Now we need money to take MIYO into production, which includes these up-front costs:
- Sourcing production-quantity components
- PCB/Assembly-related tooling
- Enclosure tooling
- Test jig creation and other QC related expenses
And this is where you come in. Help us get MIYO into your hands!

Risks and challenges
We've been a part of many successful product launches in this industry, but every product has unique challenges on the way to market. MIYO is complex to make: there's a 6-layer/2-sided PCB with 200+ components, the aluminum enclosure must be made to very precise tolerances, and thorough testing must ensure every unit is functioning to spec. And of course there are some variables beyond our control.
That being said, our current prototype is functioning very well. We designed MIYO to be reliable in production, and we are carefully selecting our manufacturing partners and inspecting their work. Our partners are in close proximity to us so we can be onsite during early roll-out.
Whatever challenges arise, we have the experience and expertise to tackle them and get MIYO into your hands.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
