Prepare to enter a world of simultaneous warfare, where two armies battle viciously for supremacy. Only you can guide one army to victory, while you crush your enemies on a field of open contest! This is the game of TORA!™
Join us in making this kickstarter a success by directly funding a production of prototypes, featuring the fantasy driven artistry of these young masters. Our goal is to create a custom art system, where each player brings their half of the board and their pieces to wage war against their opponent.
Each half of the board will represent a different world, or art style, best fitting the players personal artistic tastes. Do you want to play as Napoleon’s army crashing against mystical dragons? Then buy Napoleon’s army, and play against your friend who purchased the dragon set! Or maybe you want to entertain Patton’s first army locked in mortal combat with a cartoon village full of freshly forged anvils! The point of this game, is that each player can engage in abstract strategy with their favorite set.
What is this game, and what are the rules? Multiple versions of the rules can be found on the main website: www.toraboardgame.com and the official facebook site www.facebook.com/ToraGame . The rule books may look thick, but that’s only because they cover a wide range of questions that players have had by using detailed examples. The game is pretty easy to learn, and as shown in our tutorial video, can be picked up in under 15 minutes.
In many ways, this game is like chess, or Chinese chess; and in many ways it’s different. Being abstract strategy, you find each piece is confined to the limits of the full board, be it the Long Board (17x17), or the Short Board (9x9). Each piece has a unique function, such as Soldiers (which can move 1 in any direction, or flip over to be in defensive position as a body guard), as opposed to Archers (who may move up to 2 spaces in any direction, move up to 1 space in any direction and fire an arrow up to 1 space in any direction, or stand still, and shoot up to 2 spaces in any direction - the versatility of the Archer being the power of 2).
The objective can either be point based, wiping out the entire army, or wiping out the command units in the opposing army.
With 2 major ways to play, rules that allow for near simultaneous resolution, no allowances for move/counter move strategy, 3 different types of terrain tiles, and at least 3 different victory conditions, this game allows players to explore the strategy of the game in a multitude of tactics.
TORA™ has shown favorably in local conventions over the past few years, and interest has been expressed by small chain stores to put this game on their shelves.
But in order to make a full fledged kickstarter where we can create a real production run, and promise our donors copies of the game, we have to pay for a few prototypes first. It would also help if we can directly fund the artists prior to the subsequent kickstarter.
What are our goals? We need $100 to fund one prototype.
Why so low? We want to make sure THIS kickstarter is a success, while giving donors a chance to dictate the style of art for each of the 4 different boards in our first run. With additional benchmarks, donors can purchase the right to have their face on the box art, and as pieces in the game. Larger donations allow the donor to tell us what type of board game art they want to see. Do you want to see dragons? World War II armies? Or tigers battle it out? You can make that decision! Large donations may be eligible for surprise rewards of the donors choice from the rewards list of the subsequent kickstarter.
Maciej Laszkiewicz: Maciej is an aspiring Concept Artist/Illustrator, and currently a student of the University of Computer Science and Skills in Lódź, Poland, where studies involve Computer Art Design on the faculty of Fine and Design Arts. Besides continuous learning, Maciej works occasionally as a freelancer with additional experience as an artist in”Wastelands Interactive” as a part of completed internship.
Maciej also has a passion for digital painting, strategy games, and fantasy books, and is also a loyal player of board games, and illustrator for a few of them. Maciej joined this project to help realize this great idea, and to further learn something new, and as part of a hobby.
Adrian Retana: Adrian has been a freelance illustrator since 2013 and has worked on collectibles, editorial, advertisement and concept illustration for games and movies. Fantasy and Science Fiction are his most explored subjects. Most of his work can be found here:
Nevena Pantić: After graduating from the University of Applied Arts at Belgrade, Serbia, Nevena has worked for the last 6 years as a freelance animator and illustrator. Combining the experience of a professional with the spirit of a child, Nevena has made numerous book illustrations,short animated ads, graphics for more than 20 mobile phone games, and various printed material.
Besides making art, she enjoys making craft beer, and writing a blog on politics and social issues.
And last but not least, may I introduce Maya Priesler in her own words: As an avid gamer and professional game demonstrator, I am incredibly excited to be part of the Tora project. Tora's new take on classic strategy based board games promises to be an excellent addition to any gamer's collection. I find that my art allows me to make the world a more beautiful place and bring joy into many people's lives. As an artist, I am thrilled to be able to combine my love of gaming and my love of art in a single project. I'm excited to use my art skills to create a beautiful game that people will enjoy looking at as well as playing. I will be using a digital based multi-media approach, combining various photographs, drawings, textures, and other images to make a visually rich and compelling product. As Tora also aims to raise awareness for endangered species and environmental impact, it is also a project I can wholeheartedly support and feel good about participating in. It is a rare privilege and honour to be given this opportunity to work on a project that involves so many of my passions.

Well, to be honest, the only risk is the risk I've already risked, for that risk is the riskiest risk of the risky risks. Money to patent, copyright and protect my game.
The biggest challenges have already been faced, and either conquered or abandoned. Right now, the only challenges I am facing involve showing my board game at conventions, and convincing stores to put it on their shelves.
I believe that once someone plays this game, they'll pay to own it! Stores want money, and they'll order what the customer demands.
This is the final stage, folks! Sink or swim, whatever is funded will be produced! I already have manufacturers on speed dial who want my money, in order to give me their product. Both manufacturers are well known, with 20 years of experience and positive ratings in the BBB (last I checked), so there is no risk for production of the game once it's funded.
