EXPERIMENTS IN KILLING - The Story
EXPERIMENTS IN KILLING is a feature length horror film about a serial killer who wants to stop killing. The irony is that he videotapes his killings in order to neutralize the urge to kill. He thinks that if he sees with an objective how heinous his acts are, he’ll be able to stop.
Problem is, it doesn’t work.
The tapes he’s made eventually fall into the hands of a couple of guys who begin making a movie about the killer, integrating some of the actual murder footage. They create a violent and very disturbing bit of cinema. It's the film we’re watching.
It’s not a found-footage film per se, not in the strictest sense of the word anyway. In fact, as the levels of reality peel away, we realize that one of the things the film is doing is commenting on the genre from the inside.
The killer is an amalgam of many of the serial killers who've haunted our collective conscious. Ted Bundy. Keith Jesperson who was a trucker (as is the killer in our Film), and Dahmer, who was fond of keepsakes of his killings. Where Dahmer had his body parts and Polaroid's, our killer has his tapes.
We'll be striving for realism here. Real ghetto back alleys. Real seedy motels. At times, you'll be unable to tell whether or not some of the characters are actors or not... that's because we'll use "real" people when we can.
Groundbreaking Radio, a Behind the Scenes Journey with the Filmmakers
YOU CHOSE THE NAME FOR THE SERIAL KILLER!
Yup. This is an interactive project folks. You follow along with the project via our Experiments in Podcasting Show (see below for more info) and you help us make key decisions about the film.
You voted and (re)named the Killer in Experiments in Killing: Magnus!
NOW CHOOSE THE MURDER WEAPON!
Joe and Tom are co-hosts on the popular horror movie review podcast, The Cutting Room. It makes its home on Bill Chete’s Horror Palace.com, the number one horror movie review podcast network on the web.
Now we're launching a brand new podcast that will coincide with the production of EXPERIMENTS IN KILLING. To our knowledge, it’s a show concept that has never been done before.
The show will be called Experiments in Podcasting and it’ll be a behind-the-scenes audio production diary. It’ll consist of bi-weekly reports on the film’s development, more or less as they happen. You guys will be able to listen in on our on-air production meetings. We’ll also be engaging with fans and listeners to help us make decisions about the film.
In fact, our Cutting Room listeners have already effected the course of this project. We threw out two film ideas for them to choose from, they voted, and Experiments in Killing won.
In addition to the usual incentives offered for a film like this here, we’re also giving donors access to our podcast, ranging from shoutouts to appearances with us on the show. We can’t wait to meet you!
T-SHIRTS GIFT AT THE $25 LEVEL

BUDGET AND PRODUCTION
Cast and crew will mostly work gratis. We’ll spend the budget on locations, food and transportation for them, locations, and whatever rental equipment we’ll need to supplement what we already have on our shelves.
We’ll be shooting with the same equipment we used for our sci-fi short TIME TRAVELERS. Check out the link above to see the trailer.
We're already in pre-production and our new podcast, Experiments in Podcasting, debuts on July 26th. As soon as the project is funded and successful, we'll move right into casting. The plan is to shoot in the fall and have the film done around the new year.
If you’re new to Kickstarter here’s how it works: if we make our modest project goal, we’re off and running. You guys get a great film and a podcast show where you can follow along with the production. If we don’t make the goal, no harm no foul. No one gets charged for their intended donation and all bets are off.
But let’s not let that happen. We’re incredibly excited about getting these Experiments off the ground with you so consider kicking in. Every little bit helps.
Till then, thanks a million!
