APRIL 28, 2011 - Actor and friend Harold Perrineau (OZ, LOST, ROMEO & JULIET) joins our producing team! More info on our "Updates" tab.
In 1994, the world turned its back on the genocide in Rwanda. Rising from those atrocities, a new generation of committed, passionate filmmakers has emerged wielding movies in their own language – Kinyarwanda – providing hope through the power of "story" as a healing force. Filmed over 3 years, FILM FESTIVAL: RWANDA portrays five of these modern Rwandan filmmakers struggling to pursue their dreams and restore trust, truth, and dignity through cinema. For 10 days each year, they travel to rural villages and project local films on a giant inflatable screen delighting audiences, many of whom have never seen a movie, let alone one made in Rwanda, about Rwanda, and by Rwandans.
A unique and refreshing story of hope and redemption from Rwanda - told by Rwandans, in their own impassioned voices.
You have questions, we have answers!
Why Give NOW?
With your help we can finish a television hour rough cut before the end of August. From there we have post-production resources and people committed to complete the film by the end of the year and start submitting to festivals in 2012!
How will my money be used if this project reaches the Kickstarter funding goal?
Good question! Here is our plan:
$15,000 | Film Editor
$5,000 | Graphics / Historical Timeline - used to interweave a personal account from Mr. Musanzi with historical facts about Rwanda and the genocide
$4,500 | Composer / Music Rights
$2,000 | Sound Editing (birds chirping, water running, and all of the particular sounds of Rwanda that we want you to hear)
$2,500 | Legal Services (contracts, releases, all the fun stuff...)
Why are documentaries so difficult to fund?
Because there are tons of wonderful documentaries being made and funding from national organizations is extremely competitive.
What grants and awards have you received to date?
Pacific Pioneer Fund Grant, 2009; Big Sky Documentary Film Festival - International Pitch Forum Official Selection, 2011
We are also applying to ITVS, Cinereach, Tribeca Gucci Documentary Fund, POV, 4Culture, IFP, and Chicken & Egg Pictures.
Can I go back to Rwanda with you?
PLEASE DO! Our goal is to travel to Rwanda when the film is complete to show it at the annual "Hillywood" Film Festival. You are welcome to come with us and experience "Hillywood" for yourself... It will change you.
Please go to our Updates tab for photos and detailed info. New incentives added weekly!
