Product development specialists Think Engineer are set to launch an exciting new accessory for the Raspberry Pi hardware. CapHat is a new Official HAT for all versions of the Raspberry Pi, featuring an easy to use capacitive keypad that gives creators and educators an unlimited array of possible functions to add to their Raspberry Pi hardware. Simply sliding on to the Raspberry Pi GPIO Header, the CapHat offers a full, numbered keypad. and an expansion header, so you can keep on adding more accessories as you create. The CapHat is officially hardware compatible with the A+, B+ and 2, as well as the brand new Raspberry Pi 3.
WHAT IS THE RASPBERRY PI AND WHY DOES IT NEED A HAT?
The Raspberry Pi is a series of credit card-sized single-board computers developed in the United Kingdom by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to promote the teaching of basic computer science in schools and developing countries. The Raspberry Pi has evolved through a few different versions but be rest assured the CapHat fits all versions of the Raspberry Pi. The CapHat has been designed so it is classed as an official HAT for the mini computer.
A HAT (Hardware Attached on Top) is basically an expansion board for the Raspberry Pi. Inspired by the Arduino shield boards, the interface for HAT boards was devised by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to aid creators by adding easy to use clip on accessories to expand their creative ideas.
CAN IT BE STACKED?
Once funding has been raised we will spend the funds on development to add additional GPIO pin headers to accommodate stacking of additional accessories.
CAN WE HAVE SOME EXAMPLES OF HOW THE CAPHAT WORKS?
We made a few prototype units to demonstrate some of the many ways CapHat can be used easily and effectively:
Robot Controller - Control your newly created robot from anywhere/anytime! Simply program your Raspberry Pi, attach the CapHat, and roaming free you go:
Door Security Key Lock - Stay secure with this programmable door security keypad system. You can program your Raspberry Pi to be a secure system for a multiple locking devices, even a safe.
Security Keypad for lighting systems
Connect to an Arduino: Connect the Raspberry Pi & CapHat to an Arduino and communicate over serial to accelerate your Arduino projects:

£1 – Thank You
Might seem small but it would be an amazing gesture to support our business and furture Kickstarter products.
£14 – Early Bird
For all those early adopters we are offering a reduced price for the first 50 units. Don’t miss out on this great price.
£14 – Education Donation
So you like what you see but you’re not a digital creator. Why not offer £14 and we will send a CapHat to an education center to aid young and old in digital technology. There are over 10 million Raspberry Pi’s out there and we want to make sure every school/university can benefit from the amazing accessories available to them.
£18 – The CapHat

£30 – The CapHat x 2 units
Why not order one for a friend whilst you’re at it..
£25 – The CapHat x 2
This pledge can give you that warm feeling when you do something good for education. For the one unit you order which we will send straight to you, we will also send another full unit to an education center at no cost to them.
£70 – The Full Bundle
Always wanted to get your hand on one of these amazing mini computers or would like your young family to get into coding. Pledge for the bundle and you will get a Raspberry Pi with all the accessories plus a CapHat to start your amazing creations. If you are still not sure about the amazing technology from the Raspberry Pi, check out their organization for more amazing details and information on the support available www.raspberrypi.org
£85 - The Full Bundle Always wanted to get your hand on one of these amazing mini computers or would like your young family to get into coding. Pledge for the bundle and you will get a Raspberry Pi with all the accessories plus a CapHat to start your amazing creations. Not only will you receive one but we will send a caphat to a school!
£1000 - "Think of the children", so you are really commited to the nations youth and want to dig deep to help out? We won't "send" 10 full kits to a school, we will hand deliver them! We'll then stick around and run a session on how to set them up, how to use the Raspbery Pi and how to use the CapHat. We will also send you a full kit for being a super-mega awesome individual.
The CapHat is not in the shops yet (summer 2017) so be the first to get your hands on this nifty piece of hardware.
WHEN WILL I GET MY CAPHAT?
The CapHat will be dispatched in March 2017 (3 months after the close of funding), as Christmas and Chinese New Year celebrations will mean the last piece of development and manufacturing will take slightly longer than normal.
Risks and challenges
The team at Think Engineer are working hard in the labs creating and designing for an array of entrepreneurs in the UK on some of the latest must have products. The CapHat is the first of many products to be released on Kickstarter with a full strategic plan in place to get this product to market. Currently the CapHat is a working product and is almost ready for manufacturing and delivery. The Kickstarter funding will allow us to solve one remaining challenge that has eluded us to date; development of the mysterious number zero (see the gallery for prototype idea). We will also be adding a stackable GPIO Header so you can layer the CapHat with any compatible Raspberry Pi Hat that you want to use, or for plugging in other components directly.
