Danger in the Dark is a Broadway style musical/ mystery and is the brainchild of writer/ composer, Skip West. A combination of Film noir story with live jazz, Danger in the Dark features a live jazz ensemble, nine original songs, on-stage action scenes and lots of colorful characters with sexy romance and action, all wrapped around a very intriguing plot.
Risks and challenges
The challenge is to take an original musical concept, write the music, lyrics and book – then bring it to the stage. We’re meeting this challenge by assembling a terrific team: Skip West, composer/music director and producer in collaboration with the Catskill Community Players under the direction of Diana Friedell. The Catskill Community Players have a 40-year history of top-notch regional stage production in in venues all over the northern Catskills. Also joining the esteemed production is Brazztet, a jazz ensemble featuring some of the finest jazz musicians in Upstate New York. We’re fortunate to have the Worcester (New York) Central School and its principal Bill Diamond as avid supporters of the project having recently refurbished the schools’ Art Deco auditorium. And finally, the community of Worcester, New York is lending their support with everything from contributing a dinner theater experience to the production as well as donating stage props. Finally we are grateful for the talents of our amazing still photographer Valerie Tiffany whose work you see here in the video presentation.
Our audition and rehearsal schedule are currently under way with performances scheduled for October 17, 18 and 19 of 2014.
Danger in the Dark has a total budget of $7,000. We’ve received a $4,000 Arts in Education Grant and are now turning to Kickstarter to raise the remaining $3,000.
