Risks and challenges

There are always risks and challenges whenever creating a new product like the Silk Light. From a hardware standpoint, the Silk Light shares a lot of similarities with previous LED bulbs, with the addition of a second bank of LEDS for color temperature flexibility. We are using a very reliable Zigbee SOC (System On Chip) and have a lot of experience working with this SOC already.

Our greatest challenge is getting the firmware out of beta stage and ready for primetime. In addition to the firmware development, making it play nicely with the smartphone apps also represents a challenge. The level of scheduling control and the nClick functionality has never been done before in a smart bulb, mostly because of how complicated it makes the firmware design. We have beta firmware in place and working already, so we are confident in our ability to finalize the firmware and complete the app functionality.

We have a highly-experienced manufacturing partner lined up for production. This gives us great confidence in our ability to deliver a polished final product.
